A journeyman programmer who has been trying for years to be a game developer. Having never release anything more than several weak tech demos, the quest has a ways to go. A recent discovery of game competitions show hope of a fresh start at being less of a coder and more of a game creator.

Announcement
Just this last weekend I realized that the next Ludum Date game jam approaches (July 28th to July 30th). Of course I'm planning on participating in the event! Figured I would post a quick update here explaining what I've been up to recently since some of the changes may influence the upcoming jam.

Improvements
Probably the biggest change since my last blog post would be the fact that I did finally start on a new longer term project to start working on. At the moment I think the only MAJOR themes that I'm willing to nail down for the project are FPS + Physics Puzzles. My first doodles include a simple Egyptian scene with some crude player mechanics. No promises this will be the form this project takes in the future, just felt like a good playground to start with.

Sandy Scene

Also I started making some improvements to a game template that was formed around the time of the last Ludum Dare jam. The purpose of this template is to include some nice conventional processes for using the game engine to reduce the amount of manual work I have to do every time I start a new game. The improvements this round include a console font, 7 segment displays, and a script for automating importing textures found in the file system.

Plenty of engine improvements were made over this time as well, most being pretty technical. Full release notes can be found HERE.

Distractions
Two weekends ago I burnt a solid chunk of time changing my deployment process from my Bitbucket source repo for my game engine to the package repos at PYPI. It seems like they have started on some migration plans recently to change to a newer site. Can't complain too much since this change DID strengthen the project, just seemed to come at an awkward time.

Spent this last weekend and some moving my brother into a new apartment. I was glad to have the time to help him out since I know how much moving sucks. Just feel a bit stressed from the large chunk of time that it took my away from development.

Upcoming
Feels good to post a new blog after these weeks of on/off development. As you can see I'm preparing for the upcoming jam. Hope to see some of you out for the next event. Please let me know if you are planning to participate so that I can be sure to play your submission!
