Oyashiro-sama’s curse still lives to this day as Higurashi no Naku Koro ni has been confirmed for a new project in 2013 – a short-story once bundled with the “Daybreak” game, “Outbreak”, is coming soon.

Higurashi has always been a great series, thus of course this is
fantastic news to hear – although there’s also particular reason to be
raging with excitement. The first two seasons were sensational no doubt –
yet two of the notable aspects with any installment of Higurashi were
first how the different seasons all twined into the same story, and
secondly, the unmissable visual enhancements.

Higurashi’s first season was spartan albeit lovable in appearance,
and the second season was quite admirable in its clear improvement – but
it was indeed a third time’s charm as Higurashi Rei was a serious
transcendence, although that caliber of quality was limited to a mere
set of several OVAs.

And then we arrive at Higurashi Kira, which was a downgrade in both
story and aesthetic – it satisfied nearly no one through its whimsical
gag tales.

The main pair of questions now surrounding this next upcoming work

are simply how will this series look, and how will it relate to all
we’ve seen thus far? We should hopefully receive some key visuals and
other preview material around Comiket 83 at the end of the month.

A final note, Higurashi’s announcement for “Outbreak” is separate
from their confirmation of new developments in 2013 – their original
message merely says that “Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is getting a
restart”, and that could mean much more is on the way than what one may
have in mind.
