The day after I blog about TA Universe being down, it's back up and badder than ever :)
Apparently the problem was nameserver hosting. In other words, the server that announced to the rest of the internet where to find tauniverse.com was changed/gone. So the site was online, but you couldn't get to it.
Now, that has been sorted: the nameserver is at the same place as the actual website, so this problem wont happen again. Hopefully, this will also resolve the intermittent problems we've had over the past year or so of the subdomains (such as units.tauniverse.com and mayhem.tauniverse.com) being intermittently unavailable in some countries.
But wait! There's more! Work is apparently progressing to get File Universe (files.tauniverse.com) back online, and soon, the whole of TA Universe will be moving to a much better host.
This news, plus the new 4.0 patch currently in beta testing, plus 3 major high-quality mods under development ( Zero, Escalation and Mayhem), plus some smaller projects such as the Tortoise Pack and the new soon-to-be-released Spider Pack 2012 being made by a new generation of modders, it's exciting times for TA Universe. Who would have thought that things would still be humming 15 years after the release of Total Annihilation?
