Report RSS Urban myth Gutter-delve is based on!

The game I based Gutter-delve on is an old urban legend. I once had a friend who shall henceforth remain anonymous who told me the tale. (Or maybe I made all this up myself. Dun dun dun!)

Supposedly there was a town that was composed of families and individuals with a long history of having paranormal powers. They were probably gathered together in one place for research and so the government could easily keep track of these potentially dangerous people.

Built in the 60’s, the town also had a mine and to most outsiders this is why the town sprung up and flourished. Many norms moved in as well simply to get jobs as miners. The fact supernatural folk lived among them was kept under tight wraps by “The Family”, a group of government funded “hunters” whose sole purpose consisted of watching over “The Gifted” to take down any of them who got out of line. (In other words, gifted who lost control of their abilities or went on murderous rampages) The Family had access to the very best in technology and many believed some of them were psychics, clairvoyants, and telepaths themselves. Additionally it was believed The Family enhanced themselves with genetic augmentation just so they could keep toe to toe with the gifted put under their care. For the most part The Gifted were allowed to own property and live like normal citizens. However, rumors of cruel experimentation done upon certain gifted did circulate once in awhile. Usually such claims were dismissed or conveniently disproved.

Sound like hogwash? I mostly agree! How could a whole town be kept a secret? Then again, places like Area 51 actually exist!

Supposedly the whole town became “abandoned” sometime during the mid 80’s. Was the facility and its’ citizens moved somewhere else? Was the whole residence swallowed by a paranormal anomaly gone awry and out of control? Did The Gifted revolt against their Family overseers? Whether it is truth or fiction none of us may know for sure!

Personal opinion: Most likely bullshit! However, there is an abandoned town north west of British Columbia. My hypothesis? The mine ran dry and their probably was no “government experimentation” or “paranormally/supernaturally gifted people” living there. The town’s name is Kitsault in real life.
