@[DarynS](members:daryns:959492) and I have been friends for nearly 30 years, he and I working on various projects together, for many of those years. @[DarynS](members:daryns:959492) has the ability to pick up very quickly on technical matters, learning very rapidly, thereafter able to apply what he has learned with great effectiveness. Whereas I, apparently, have some small knack for making Doom maps. Our two talents compliment each other's perfectly, all of our projects, without exception, emerging remarkably well. Especially our Doom maps. I have dabbled in making maps for Doom since the late 90s, getting my start with DoomEd, then later graduating to DoomBuilder2, when I decided to get back into map-making again. Now, I use Ultimate DoomBuilder, enjoying it very much, and especially its developers' apparent desire to make the full power of GZDoom accessible to as many people as they can.

Map04 was wonderful. To build, to play test. To marvel over, even as I was making it. Watching it grow, sculpting it, turning it into something that I knew was going to be wonderful.

It was a journey.

It was an adventure.

I have never put such exhaustive detail and functionality into a map before. The map makes you feel literally like you're in a real place. It feels alive. It breathes and lives. It asks you to suspend your belief. It challenges your imagination. "Come be in me. You are here, and I want your heart to pound because you are here."

A bit over the top, one can suppose, I guess. But seriously, wait until you have played it. It takes you by the throat and clamps down on it tight, until at last, with a huge breath of relief, you get to that exit door. Where you will stand in awe and look back, and wish with your heart of hearts, that it wasn't over yet. It seizes you. It beguiles you. It reminds you of how good of a game Doom can be.

And I made it.

To say I was proud, would be an understatement. Map04 is an accomplishment. A crowning achievement in Doom map-making.

But I was inspired.

Wonderful folks in the community have made numerous videos of our maps. That makes one eager to make more so more videos can be made of what you've done. So thanks hugely, very much so, to those folks who have found our offerings worthy of their showcasing.

And thanks, too, goes to the experienced modders from the ZDoom forums - who have helped @DarynS. Without their help, I know for a fact, Map04 would not be all that it is now.

And which brings me to @DarynS. My best friend. My accomplice in map magicry. Without his help, his dedication to this project, which rivals, if it doesn't outright equal my own, these maps would not be possible as they are. They would be but a shadow of themselves, a duller, only run-of-the-mill set of maps. He has helped bring true magic to this project.

Play our maps. Feel our love for this project. Feel our dedication. Experience our joy in it. And most of all, just simply enjoy them. That is what we made them for. For you to enjoy.
