Report RSS The Hobbit as a Campaign

Posted by on

Hello fellow Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth fans! This is my first time blogging so I'm interested to see how it goes. I have never made a mod in my life(I haven't even the slightest idea how to) so the purpose of this blog is to try to give a mod maker(namely The Edain Team because they made an awesome mod) the inspiration to make a "The Hobbit" Campaign. I have a few ideas for it, and if anyone else has any(or tweaks to mine), feel free to post them in the comments. My first idea is to start off the campaign with Smaug's(and maybe even add goblins) attack on the Lonely Mountain. You could have Thorin Oakenshield and the others who survived start on one side of the map and have the objective be to get them to safety by fleeing the Lonely Mountain. This could be achieved by having Dwarves(That you would have to build) attack Smaug(They wouldnt be able to kill him but just slow him down and this could be where the goblins come in cause you could kill them). Smaug would kill Thorin and his companions if he wasn't attacked enough. When they reach the other side of the map the battle would be over. It would be a quick battle but it could make it more book-like and add effect I think. You could maybe then have a level in between where the Dwarves have to fight goblins on their journey to the Shire(I know its not in the book but it would add another battle). Then of course you could have something where Bilbo and the Dwarves fight the 3 trolls(maybe just add Rangers and Orcs to it some since the Dwarves never actually kill the trolls). Then you can have a battle where the goblins battle just the Dwarves, Bilbo, and Gandalf(I'm thinking of something like how they did the Fellowship in the Mines of Moria in the Good Campaign on the first Battle for Middle-Earth). Then I think it would be cool to have a battle with something like Beorn and a bunch of animals attacking the Goblins that chased after the Dwarves(It does say something about Beorn going and fending of the Goblins in the book). Also a battle where Biblo(with maybe help from the Mirkwood Elves) goes and frees the Dwarves from the Spiders in Mirkwood. I think that would be a fun Campaign battle. And then of course you could have the Battle of Dul-Godur where the Elves, Gandalf, and whoever else fight the Necromancer. You would need to have a battle where Smaug attacks Dale and where he gets killed(this would be an essential part). And then to end it all off have the Battle of Five Armies and make it stinkin awesome!!! So thats generally what I had in mind. I know that there are probably some problems in it but that is where the mod makers come in. Feel free to add anything to it but please no swearing or vulgar comments! I hope you have enjoyed this and I'll leave you with the totally random comment of the day:
Chuck Norris leaves his voice-mails before the beep!(PLEASE DON"T BOMB THIS BLOG WITH CHUCK NORRIS JOKES!!!)

Nice ideas, I love the game as well. I'm afraid the possibility of the Edain Team seeing your blog post is fairly small. They do have a moddb account though, if that's any help ( Moddb.com ) - although I didn't find anything to contact them. You best option might be to just leave a comment on their mod's page.
Also, with the movie currently under way, we might get an all new Battle for Middle-Earth game, and who knows? Maybe some of your suggestions will appear in it :).

To be honest. . . the Edain team already did it for their campaign system. Except they haven't done the Journey to the Shire yet, etc. But everything else: Done and done. Some missions are in the skirmish.

I might do this, as an advanced coder. Except: I never really did any coding the past years. I'm also pretty young to do so. But I learned around the age of 7. And been coding a lot. I also, have not. . . coded for 4 years straight and never released any of my mods. . . Why? Lost them in a virus. Not modding again, but great ideas, keep them coming, maybe I'll end up modding again because of you.

I don't know if this 'project' is still active but great idea anyway! I can help you with the hypothetical campaign of Dol Guldur, or any campaign that involves Galadriel :)
