Yeah, the Space Marines main goals are to: Protect Mankind and Serve the Emperor.
A kid strapped to a grenade... Genious! But, the weight of the kid would make it harder to throw the grenade... so, good idea, but kinda counter productive...
for an astartes still easy to throw ;)
or the kid is meant to run for the lines of the enemy. or just walk towards them and they're like: "awww what a cute kid! hey what's that in your *BOOM* ...... i'm just guessing
Or maybe he's simply protecting the "bait" till the time is right.
"here kid hold on to this highly explosive device" *looks around corner* "right go around here and u'll be safe ultra smurfs honor" 2 secounds later......BOOM
think the pdf made the child into a suicide bomber while the space marines is telling the child to spend his life in better way

Wonder why the Smurf has an old school bolter, but Mark VI power armor.

Kid is either carrying munitions for troops as the citizens were recruited to help in desperate times. Or the kid "volunteered" to martyr himself in the Emperor's name but the Ultramarine was kind enough to tell him "No need, I got this."
Or maybe the kid is part of the genestealer cult... And the ultrasmurf is in for a nasty surprise.
