This is a group for those of us that enjoy leaving comments and reviews for HL2 mods. We encourage you to leave comments, images, or even videos on how you feel about certain source mods, bad or good. We dont care if you lend a helping hand to the struggling mod or leave comments full of angry caps, we would love to have you take part. And so, whether you are here to stay, or passing through on your way to parts unknown, welcome to the HL2 Mod Critics Group.

Report RSS The Intern's Story Part 1 & 2

I thought it was time for a less popular mod to be reviewed. Here is one of my top ten favorites... The Intern's Story!

Posted by on

I just reviewed Minerva, and thought that maybe I should post a review on a less known mod. The Intern's Story consists of Three parts, two of which are released. Dont be suprised if you havent heard of this mod... But I'll be suprised if you don't like it.

THE INTERNS STORY (Spoiler alert, by the way. But I wont reveal too much!)

"The Intern's Story is a game set in the classic Call of Cthulhu setting of 1920s New England as described by the imagination of H.P. Lovecraft."

To some, that may sound like alien chatter, but to some, it sounds exactly like what the game is. Kickass. You start as an Intern (no really...) who has been sent into the basement. While there, you fall through the floor into a mysterious land of hallways and dimly lit secrets. It creates an incredible effect of suspense, mystery, and horror. After the first episode, you progress to an even more interesting part of the mod, where you must escape the insanitarium you once worked for and continue on through the strange land. While most mods and games depend on the creepiness of their enemies, this mod only has three, and you dont even fight them. I usually believe that if you cant experience combat in a mod it sucks, and while sometimes that is true, this is the complete opposite. To add guns wouldve ruined it. Anyway, here I give you the scoreboard:

Storyline- There is not tons of story to this mod, it is more of an introduction to the series. But thats just part of it... It also couldnt really progress a huge story, for it is maybe 25 minutes long. Yet what exists fits very, very well. STORYLINE: 8/10

Mapping- The mapping in this mod is absoloutely amazing. It creates a great feeling of horror, full of sound, lighting, and overall suspense. This is what really made the mod for me. It did need a little bit of editing, but overall, I say: MAPPING: 9/10

Gameplay- Creepy and fun. No real "jumping out of your seat" moments, but you can just walk around the parts of the mod and just feel that something bad is going on there. There may be no combat, but even the most hardcore shoot em' up fans will love this. GAMEPLAY: 9/10

OVERALL: 9/10
Anyway, I hope you agree. And dont forget... The third one is coming! The third is also going to include custom content and effects, so I think we can all count on an even better mod. Please play it!
