This is my interface modification. The package includes the new dark blue HUD, new icons and cursors. These are separate in specific folder, so can be used separately. To use, only need to copy to the game folder.

I didn't make the planet or texture, I just made the HUD. Also, this is a 20+ year old game. Not easy to make realistic planets. You are right tho...
