With gives the future - insight into planned updates.

Posted by on

Here is a list of all changes planned for the future; entries are sorted by priority (highest first), might change at any point, and can be influenced by everyone via feedback. Also, don't be surprised if we squeeze in unannounced stuff.

  • Separate updater from client executable
Cleaner that way, allows the game to be distributed without the updater system, and solves the bug of anti-aliasing not working under Linux unless --no-update being specified as parameter.
  • Overhaul of the engine's video and scene systems
The Proxy framework will be ready for OpenGL 4.0 / Direct3D 11. With work on our next project having recently started, this has to get out of the way asap.
  • German translation
I stated this would be finished latest a week ago, but didn't happen yet. I feel bad.
  • Make world climate a player setting
Players should be able to always play on the climate they enjoy most, even in multi player. Very easy to do.
  • Direct connect
Pretty easy to do, and with our dreams of a massive Conquest online community shattered (for now!), no reason not to bring it back.
  • Improved singleplayer experience
Most people actually play the game in singleplayer, so we have to make it more worthwhile in that aspect. New mission objectives and different AI difficulty levels should accomplish that.
  • Improved unit management
Drag&Drop with Ctrl pressed will build a travel path for newly received units, making it more comfortable to play on larger maps. Also, holding Shift will allow to group select/move units.
  • Space ships for the main menu
Our artist made some great space ships to fly towards the planet in the main menu screen. I'd like to get that in as a celebration update at one point or the other!

And i gotta say, while playing the single player was fun for a few games (untill i finally got to beat that bugger AI) there definetely needs to be improvement in this section, and im glad to see you are already planning it.
