I have mixed feelings about it..

I don't think it is as Good as the Grippen or Rafale, or the Russian Jets.

When the Trance 3 will be out and the CAPTOR-E AESA radar available the Eurofighter Typhoon should be the most advanced 4 Gen figther.
The PIRATE IRST is much better than the Russian OLS-35 (~twice the range).
Comparable maneouverbility to Russian Jets.
Defensive systems (Preatorian) is extremely good + Russian avionics are not as good as US/EU avionics (take a loot at India, Su-30MKI has lot of western avionics inside, guess why^^).

Personaly, I think that the Gripen and Rafale are worse performance wise, but much cheaper. Eurofighter is build by 4 nations, Rafale and Gripen only by one (+ Gripen is older)

And contrary to russian jets, the air to air missiles are better(R-77 and R-73M vs. MBDA Meteor and IRIS-T, EU weapons will win any day).

The only question is: Will the UK, Germany, Spain and Italy have enough money to upgrade all of them to the newest standart?

Ok so here it goes.

First I never said The Typhoon was a Bad plane. I said I had Mixed Feelings about it.

Sure the Trance 3 is a nice toy but I doubt all of the Typhoons will be updated to that standard, and the THALES SPECTRA as well as the other Thales Suites on the Rafale is Far superior then anything the Typhoon has. Also India did not Choose Western Avionics on it's Russian planes because they were better..They did it for Commonality, after all it's an Option on Russian exports, and you don't have an option to place Russian Avionics on Western Planes. ^^

Manouverbility compared to Russian Jets.. Hmm I'll give you that. The Thing is Quite Agile but do I think it is a match in a Turn and Burn Contest Against the Su-35? No I do not.

Which Leads me too another point. If the Weapons Systems on the Typhoon are so good How come some countries are considering equipping the Typhoons with American weapon Suites like the UK already did? Is It possibly because of the next Gen Russian Weapon Systems or the Rafale's? Who Knows But I have a hunch. Although the R77 and R73 are fine weapons.

Performance.

Typhoon Has Poor Endurance compared to Most Russian Fighters and The Rafale. That being said It is a Pretty Good Dog Fighter with Good Take off performance, Dash speed and Agility. Although It can not Sustain It's Dashing Very long or maintain endurence fighting very well. I'm aware that the Typhoon can also be Kitted to Operate at full capacity from poorly prepared airstrips as well. Another advantage the Typhoon has is it's Engines are actually Quite reliable.

Now here is the Kicker.

The Rafale Dominated the Typhoon in combat exercises in Al Dhafra ((and it beat the F-22)) So that is another thing to point out. As far as Russian jets are concerned India said the Sukhoi Jets were comparable to the Rafale in Dogfights. So who knows what that would mean for the Typhoon.

Well that's my short Synapse nice post BTW I like seeing these types so Plus one Karma!

Out of the mouth of a Western country.
I know this doesn't expand on any euro-jets but bear with.

People don't actually know much about the newest Russian aircraft avionics, all we hear are little bits of this and that, so it is a very bold claim to say that avionics wise both the US and the EU have better gear.

The Sukhoi jets have outperformed EVERY jet they have come up against in wargames or mock battle simulations, as misty as the reports are, that much can be gathered and certainly stands for something.

The Russian R'series missiles a reliable and easy to produce, and so far have not come up wanting. (Avionics play a big part in the effectiveness of air-to-air missiles anyway).

Sukhois or MiGs that have been blown out of the sky in previous conflicts were heavily outdated and poorly maintained, with far from Russian standard pilots.

My point is that it is near impossible to speculate with Russian aircraft and their tech because of how little we actually know about them. But from what we have seen older Russian Sukhoi or MiGs have seriously destroyed the competition in nearly every simulated battle. If this is the case in the past then what the hell are their newest planes going to be like?

You can't expect everyone to accept one's technology to be superior, cause you know, the fear of vulnerability and weakness. It's a human nature, they can't accept that they are outpace, they rather have the world know what they can show than what they really are.

Just like looking for work and internship, so because that one person is more skilled than you, are you giving him/her overtake you, of course not, its better to step on him/her than you bieng the one step on, even if she/he is way better than you.

Welcome to Capitalism, baby XD

Soviet Union made a mistake of keeping everything close to one side, cause they thought their communism ideology can be accepted easily, its foolish, cause even when USA is about to bankrupt themselves, the world all goes to USA and aided it to survived, USSR, due to its secretive, suspicion, paranoia and extremely sensitive nature and policy, let to its downfall, cause they are not shown to be the ideal nation to side with.

USSR is just too enclose to realized that by opening their door a long time ago, things would have been different. Can't blame them, since their thinking and ideas back than was a completely different world.
