The glitz, glamour, and unbridled decadence of the 80s are back in Yakuza 0. Fight like hell through Tokyo and Osaka with protagonist Kazuma Kiryu and series regular Goro Majima. Play as Kazuma Kiryu and discover how he finds himself in a world of trouble when a simple debt collection goes wrong and his mark winds up murdered. Then, step into the silver-toed shoes of Goro Majima and explore his “normal” life as the proprietor of a cabaret club. Switch between three different fighting styles instantaneously and beat up all manner of goons, thugs, hoodlums, and lowlifes. Take combat up a notch by using environmental objects such as bicycles, sign posts, and car doors for bone-crunching combos and savage take-downs. Fighting is not the only way to kill time in 1988’s Japan: from discos and hostess clubs to classic SEGA arcades, there are tons of distractions to pursue in the richly detailed, neon-lit world.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ v1.0.1 (4/11/19) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Updated filepath. Developers migrated the file selection and all I did was change which file the game uses now. Everything is the same as v1.0.0 other than that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ v1.0.0 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Replaces the mainly-used font in the game with a high-resolution edit.
Nice job, looks really good
Thank you! I might edit more if I can find the right files.
Any chance you could provide the modded dds file you edited or maybe a tutorial on how you edited the text?
I know its the hd2_hankaku.dds file, but I've struggled to make all the text line up nicely and not cut out some parts. Seems it's extra finicky on the area it can be placed in.
EDIT: Nevermind I gave it another patient shot at editing the original dds file and managed to get it all lined up nicely. I can post it a bit later for others once I fix up some small issues with it.
You should be able to extract my modded file from the game and edit it like the original game file. As for alignment, I spent a good while (a few hours) making, testing, and revising certain characters until I was satisfied to release this mod. It just takes some time to get things looking right.
Also, realizing that the ORIGINAL font is off in some text sequences just drives me mad.
I tried extracting it a few times actually. With both Quickbms and the Gibbed.Yakuza0 tool.
Quickbms extracted it but the file for whatever reason couldn't seem to be extracted or was corrupted. Wouldn't open in any dds viewer, or Photoshop with the DDS plugin.
And the gibbed.yakuza0 tool just failed extracting altogether.
Was just the hd2 file you edited that was like that. Don't really get why though.
Very strange... I've uploaded the main layers I used to make the font including the final edit as .png files. You can download them from imgur: Imgur.com
Hey is there a chance you can make a HD font mod for Kiwami since it released on PC.
I probably wont for a few months. Ive had arm surgery and will be off my desktop for a while longer. I cant imagine they changed the font file structure, so if anyone wants to re-release this mod for kiwami, I wouldnt mind. Otherwise, yeah, I planned on releasing it on my own for kiwami eventually.
Yeah I looked at the game directory and the file structure is the same. I tried copying/replacing font.par with your version from yakuza 0 but it seems like it doesn't work. So there needs to be a new version specifically made for kiwami.
This discussion tells you everything I would about how to mod for yakuza: Steamcommunity.com
You'll need photoshop or another software capable of editing .dds files. You can use the imgur link I posted earlier for the spritesheet of letters/characters. It might take some time to follow, but everything you need is in that discussion.
Edit: you said it didnt work with this mod's file, but have you tried the solution in this mod's page description? The start, close, replace, start again steps?
Hello Beepin!
Can I use your font and make some changes to it? We're trying to translate Yakuza 0 to spanish but, for this, we need to reorder and add some characters to fit their positions with ISO-8859-1 code.
Regards!
Feel free to edit and release this mod as you see fit. Credit would be nice :)
Thank you very much!! :)
Font no longer works on March 2019 Patch 4?
Try the method in the description if your game hangs on a black screen on start. Im pretty sure updating the game changes some filesizes which conflicts with denuvo validation.
Thanks for the reply. The game launches and plays fine, but the replaced font isn't shown at all. Denuvo has recently been removed and the game exe is much smaller. Would you mind taking a look if the font could be updated to work with latest game version?
I'll see if I can get to it this week.
Were you able to load the font on the updated game?
Sorry, but no, I havent gotten around to it. I'll give an update late tomorrow.
I've updated the mod, let me know if it works
Works great, thank you! What prevented the previous version from working before?
The developers seemed to change the file that the game uses. There are 2 folders named "hd" and "hd2". Both folders are essentially the same files for some reason (possible graphics options? hd=normal, hd2=ultra? Idk). My mod used the font file from hd2, as hd didnt work before. Now hd works and hd2 doesn't. I may have to release another update later if they change which fonts are used, but I'll cross that bridge when it comes to that.
