Hey all, sorry for the delayed update, and lack of pics and website, had a little trouble with a few things but back on the rails now. Currently just trying to get the website completely done and out of the way for now so no pics of any models yet sorry to say.
Point is though that I have a couple things to throw in for this weeks update, from now on every Saturday around this time I or Doik will be posting on here some info on the game, whether we have progress to post or not. I will be doing the lengthy posts of course, what I'm best at is not shutting up hehe.
We have came to the conclusion that the best engine to use will be the recently released CryEngine, I have had a quick play around with it and figured it will make the game look and feel best for a SteamPunk universe. So far we have some basics of the plan worked out, mainly that there will be a selection of races to choose from and based on that the technology will look different. For instance I am currently toying with the idea of different races having a base of style in Egyptian, Roman, even Greek architecture and clothing. This allows for a massive amount of existing reference material to be used, but to make them seem like an alien race entirely they are to be very different from typical ideas, like Egyptians not being human but instead Human bodies with a Bird/Cat/Jackal head, and the technology could be anything from current day tech to gears and steam, or even cyberpunk too.
Of course the game is based around the Victorian SteamPunk style in the campaign still, these will just be options for custom universes, and AI controlled races in the campaign you can ally or fight with.
Another point I want to add is this game will be in development for a long time after its initial release, we plan to do a 'Minecraft' release system. The initial product will be the game in a beta form with the bare basics included, nothing fancy, just a couple of planets, a few enemies and a couple of other races. NPC's will have 3-4 varying faces and hairstyles and you will only be able to use several items/equipables. From there we will add updates, probably on a fortnightly or monthly basis, adding more worlds, enemies, allies, races, story lines, items/equipables, cities, dungeons, weapons, factions, guilds, environments, transport, space/air/land/sea fighting, and much more. This will continue even after the official 1.0 release, probably adding more ideas from the community if enough people want certain things to be added/improved.
This is an ambitious game I have to admit but we are giving ourselves as much time as we can to get it done right, we will not be rushing anything as we would rather double the development time and have a good game at the end of it than have a speedy release and it be a terrible game. I will hopefully have the website done soon, and I will update the ModDB page at the same time with all the new ideas and info I can reasonably fit, and at the very least some concept art if not some models in-engine.
