This automates the tedious procedure for making Portal 1 content available in Portal 2. It can also copy over the content from Half-Life 2 and its Episodes.
This is version 1.6
A table of disk space usage from each game is in the readme, though it may not be completely accurate.
Instructions:
- Download the ZIP file.
- Extract the folder inside into "steamapps\common\portal 2". If you are not sure where to find this, it's probably in "C:\Program Files\Steam" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam".
- Go into the folder.
- Double-click on "RUNME" (or "RUNME.bat").
- Under Vista/7, it may ask you whether or not you want to extract Episodic content, ie. stuff from HL2 Episode One and/or Two. Y is Yes, N is No. Under XP it defaults to yes.
- Sit back and relax while it extracts all the files.
- Please ignore any red. Most of the affected files aren't required anyway.
- When Portal 2 comes up, close it.
- Follow the instructions in relation to Face Poser.
- You'll need to run "fix_text_files" every time the game cache is verified or the game is updated.
AWE. SOME.
Tank you very much!
You're welcome !
I just realized how much stuff there is in portal 1
nice
cannot find it !! tried to dl and "page not found" on all :(
Yes, that's troubling... I might release a new version soon, so that'll fix the download automatically.
I can finally run Portal 1 Mods in Portal 2!
you managed to do it?
I hate to break it to you all, but all this does is copy content, not code. It's an incredibly useful way of copying the content, but don't expect fully working Striders in Portal 2 or anything, the code just isn't there.
What makes you think anybody did expect that? Also, anything is possible for a persistent modder: Youtube.com
Ever since I downloaded this, Hammer has stopped responding within seconds of editing. Did I screw up the installation, or is anyone else having problems?
RUNME.bat is acting funny, it closes when the Orangebox portion finishes, had to edit it several times to get it to extract what I needed. Other than that, great job.
how did you edit it pleas etell me
RUNME.bat instantly stops, is it because i'm using steampipe?
it's also possible that it's because i don't own HL2
It just gives me an error saying that the files cannot be found, then closes instantly. Thoughts?
Is there any way to make this application put the content in an empty folder?

Could you update this to use vpk's instead of Gcfs because Gcfs are not used anymore.
Well I got Non-Steam Version of Portal 2
Shows up for a split-second and closes
