You wouldn't be able to see the potion inside. It would just look like a white blob.
not true. there are plenty of modz that deify what you just said
As of right now most items in minecraft as well as the particles are sprites. the blocks are the only thing with real geometry. But you're wrong there, a white material could act as a canvas for a shader to be applied, and the glass could have transparency applied. A real 3D flask would ave to be pretty high-poly to look nice though, I doubt notch would do it.
Why not a rotating sprite similar to the way a sword follows your view when dropped

When I saw brewing stand, I thought, "Yay! Now we can have beer in Minecraft!"
If we put wheat in it, we should get beer. Just putting that out there. Nice mod idea for 1.9.
I just have to put it out there - that thing looks just ugly.
BUT, it might look better when we see it personally.
With that said - I can not wait for potions!
Well I think it's a nice use for Blaze rods, This makes the Nether have a real reason to go to!

Make the sprites for potions rotate as you look at them! Because this looks a bit off
