Houdini Engine lets you load Houdini Digital Assets into other digital content creation apps such as Autodesk Maya and 3DS Max, Cinema 4D, Unity, and Unreal Engine 4. You can also use the Houdini Engine API to create your own plug-ins for proprietary applications. Houdini Engine can also be used on the farm when you distribute key tasks such as rendering, simulation, motion and geometry caching. Houdini Engine gives you command-line access to Houdini's powerful node-based architecture. You can use the Houdini Engine in batch mode to feed the render farm and process distributed dynamic simulations.

Post news Report RSS "Project Ladybug" video tutorial series released

Check out this recently released video tutorial series that covers how to model, texture, and instance a 3D ladybug in Houdini.

This workshop will focus on the modeling and shading the elytra (shell/wing cover) of the ladybug. In the process we will explore using point clouds to interactively place the spots on the elytra. Once that is completed we will create a custom “beetle” shader that will allow the artist to quickly create the material for multiple types of beetles. Finally, we will learn how to save the geometry as a packed primitive and then render a scene with thousands of instances of the shell.
