If you have ever tried to set up a stand alone dedicated server for the first time, then you understand the difficulty and confusion that is included. This tool will help simplify and ease the process of setting up a stand alone dedicated server for Source mods!
This is the Source Mod Dedicated Server Tool - Version 1.0 which was created by SHIFT's programmer (NeoMatrix) to help simplify and ease the process of setting up a stand alone dedicated server for Source mods! If you have ever tried to set up a stand alone dedicated server for the first time, then you understand the difficulty and confusion that is included.
The goal for this tool is to make it easier for players to set up dedicated servers for their mods using an intuitive GUI instead of the command line.
This tool is better for running a stand alone dedicated server that will use less resources and does not require login to Steam and will work with up to 10 multiplayer mods!
We hope this program will help players create their own dedicated servers and get more people playing their favorite mods.
If you find this tool useful, use it in your own mod, or have questions or feedback, please leave a message here or in the downloads section.
Begin by downloading the installer for the SMDST.
You can download it here!
Once SMDST is successfully installed, launch the program.
At the main screen, your first step to getting started is to set up the multiplayer mod of your choice. You must add it to the program before you can launch your dedicated server.
Press the “Plus” button to add a new mod or game to the list.
You will see a new window that will allow you to enter the necessary information to set up a dedicated server.
Start by entering the mod’s name. (This will be a display name for the mod/game list).
Next, click on the “Browse…” button to set the path to the mod you wish to use (“C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\SourceMods\shiftmp”).
Once you have set the path to the mod, your next step will be to load the corresponding game engine from Steam/Valve Server so that you are able to run your server without missing core files.
To get the necessary files, click on the “Plus” button next to the Mod/Game engine drop box.
Most mods will use “hl2dm” as a base, while newer mods will use “Orangebox” as their base.
After you have selected the proper game engine, click on “Start Downloading” button.
Once downloading begins, you will be able to watch your progress. On a high speed connection, this can take approximately 20 – 30 minutes.
*YOU ONLY NEED TO DOWNLOAD THE CORE GAME ENGINE FILES ONCE PER ENGINE*
After the long process of downloading is complete, you are now ready to launch your server!
Click on the dropdown menu and select the proper game engine. Click the “OK” button.
You will be returned to the main screen and your newly added mod will be in the Mod/Game list.
Now you may set all the options for your server!
Starting Map option allows you to select your server’s starting map from the mod’s directory.
Custom Map List allows you to load your custom map lists. If you do not know how to create one, you can leave it blank and it will use the default maplist.txt.
The Custom Launch Commands are for advanced commands that you want to run at server launch. By default, four common options for users have been added below:
"Console" for use of the server console
"Allow Debug" for developers who are still testing their mod
"LAN Server" to run a local server
"Internet server" to run your server online
The Max Player Amount allows you to select how many players are allowed in your server (2 – 32).
Once you have set all of your server’s options, click the “Launch” button and it will launch your server!
To shut down your server, click the “Kill Server” button.
To add multiple mods to the application, simply repeat steps 3 through 7.
