If anyone wants to try out the new Titles for HF2 you can download this simple Titles mod. If I like it, I'll make it a permanent addition.

Update 12/29/2021

TODO:
-Serialize data (I left data saves at Decimal for testing purposes, I probably won't put this in until the final release).
-Add new Bosses for players to discover.
-New unique items.
-New set items.
-No new recipes, sorry folks. I am not encouraging people to transmute items beyond Lord of Destruction. I need to retain some classic features.
-New missions, more scavenging. Sorry, no rewards..., but you get to keep the items you find and I might tell you the best place to find them!
-New hidden levels for players to discover.
-New monsters in new areas.
-New Key Items. Some useful, some collectable.
-New runes/runewords.

Update 2/23/2022

Bugs/Errors: (In order of priority from worst to least)
-TCP/IP Protocols are not compatible or are buggy with PlugY and HF2. Not really sure how I can solve this problem without removing some of the game's features. Sorry people.
-Whirlwind sometimes locks the character functions if the skill is granted by a skill item requiring the player to exit the game to free up.
-Fixed an error where Books displayed the wrong image.
-Any extra summoned monsters (skeletons, wolves) granted by skill items will unsummon. All Skills and All Class Skills items still work properly.
-Sometimes the color palette will be incorrect if using a Town Portal from a map that has a different color palette than the portal's.
-Purple rain! Sorry, that wasn't intended. Nice little treat for you Prince fans, though.
-Act 1 Meadow Fairys disappear if they come in close range with you. This also was not intended, but I like it. I might add something to the story line when I add more missions.
-There's no Bovine Plate! How could have I forgotten this? I'll add some freebies later...
-There's no Apocalypse. Well, this really isn't an error but I don't want to take away too much from the classics and chronologically speaking, there is no Sorcerer in Diablo II. However, technically speaking, Holy Fire is just as useful in some areas and can make you very rich.
-Any extra summoned monsters (skeletons, wolves) granted by SET BONUSES from items will unsummon. All Skills and All Class Skills items still work properly. I didn't really clarify that enough.
-Sometimes the client will crash if the stack crawl reaches more than what 64-bit operating system can handle (which can take an upward of 12 hours). I'm trying to find the source of the memory leak but considering I am using archaic methods of patching, this might be impossible to fix.

Update 3/31/2022

Good news! You can still play multiplayer if you turn off the PlugY mod in the PlugY.ini located in the Interface folder. Just set 'ActivePlugin=1' to 0 in the config file. You won't be able to use the HF2 Menu or XInput, but you can still explore the new areas with your friends and find new or trade items with other players. I am still trying to improve the multiplayer experience, even though Hellfire II is a single player enhancement mod, I will still try to improve the Multiplayer experience as well for those of you who want to do Baal and Nakrul runs but right now I would just recommend trading with your friends. Check back later, right now I'm working on getting the kill counter and other player stats working on multiplayer.

Patch Updates: (Beta39b)
-Guild note space increased to 30 letters/numbers/characters.
-Reduced the release time when pressing down buttons on a gamepad to prevent double cast at high casting rates.
-Improved the graphics on Imperial Currency. Now looks more realistic on the ground.
-Static Field now works like it did in classic. No restrictions in Nightmare and Hell.
-Removed the Battle.net and Gateway buttons.
-Fixed an error where the screen would minimize if clicking on the border of screen.
-New Titles for characters that complete Normal, Nightmare, and Hell difficulties.
-Monsters in Nightmare now reflect old Hell monster levels. Most Hell monsters are now level 105.
-Levels in Nightmare now reflect old Hell levels. Most Hell levels are now level 105.
-Kill counter now distinguishes between different difficulty levels.
-Added 6 Elixirs and 13 Books. They work like charms do, they are just a bit more powerful.
-Fixed a bug where sometimes the game counter would give an extra win or loss and game count. Just to clarify, you get one win if you kill an act boss without dying or if you stay in the game 2 hours without dying or you get a draw if you stay in the game without dying or without killing an act boss for 30 minutes. You can only get a maximum of 1 win/loss per game, so if you kill all the act bosses in one game, or you die more than once, you will still only get 1 win or loss.
-Act VII Sand Mountain is now 3 levels. Sand Mountain Level 1, 2, and 3. This should help players prepare for Nightmare.
-Guild ladder now saves and refreshes every 5 minutes, down from 10. I need to stress test this futher. By the way, if you have McAfee 16 on Windows 11, it speeds up the game's features a lot. The guild ladder will save and refresh 4x faster and the game will close a lot faster.
-If you haven't noticed yet, I have added BLM II and WHM II sets. They are the same as the other class sets, just stronger.
-Key Items are now distinguished between Standard and Hardcore modes.
-Act I Tower Levels 1-5 are now 65+ level areas. This should also help people prepare for Nightmare.

Hey guys, I also updated the HF2Music.mpq file for the newest client version. I will include this in the next patch but you can get it here now.

-Act I Tracks are now reshuffled, classic tracks will play first in the wilderness, caves and monastery.

I reverted a few changes. The ladder will refresh every 10 minutes and Key Items are no longer segregated by core.

Hey guys,

Read this article. McAfee 16 really speeds up Hellfire II a lot and you can move between games more quickly. I bought my laptop around October last year and it came with McAfee 16. The App Boost feature still works if you aren't subscribed.

Hello again,

I also discovered Hellfire II runs faster if you are using a HDMI port instead of a VGA port. For those of you on older systems, thanks for your patience. I am trying to find a way to speed the data dumps. Check back later.

Update 3/2/2022

I fixed the guild ladder so it will now tell you when data is busy loading. The ladder saves on game entry and automatically every 10 minutes. If you die on hardcore, the ladder will save, but it will take longer to escape the client while the ladder saves. I'm still trying to speed up the data dumps, but at least it will let you know when it is updating.

Added some much needed improvement to the XInput design. The game will now pause automatically if your controller becomes disconnected while playing. You can now also reconnect the controller and continue playing without reloading.

Also fixed some monster strings that were crossed on the kill counter.

Fixed a major error that slowed down the game closing and exiting when updating ladder, causing windows to sometimes lock up periodically (usually when running background programs).

Good news, people... You can now play on open multiplayer, however, I recommend turning off the extra stash and shared stashes before playing or you might lose some of your items. Also, Microsoft put out an update that seems to have sped up the I/O system. Ladder loading times have improved somewhat on Windows 11.

You can quickly turn off the extra and shared stashes by typing '/mpmode on' or '/mpmode off' with this latest hotfix that will be included in future patches. Guilds will no longer be separated by core due to complications with multiplayer. There you have it people, enjoy!

I am releasing a Crashfix that replaces the Meadow Fairys from oak spirits to harpys. Before, the Meadow Fairys would cause a memory leak that would cause the client to crash after a period of time. That is fixed in this update that will be included in the next patch, but you can get it here now by clicking the link down below.

Also fixed another crash that has to do with the ladder.

Another update today, including all those changes I mentioned above, I made some other improvements I hope you all will like.

Gems now sell for more at vendors. You won't regret collecting all those gems! I also added 14 unique swords for you swashbucklers, corsairs, and gladiators out there. Blood Moor in Hell is now a level 110 area and it is much harder than before.

The price of runes from shops is greatly increased. I did this because I have also been finding high runes in nightmare, so I made it a little bit harder to purchase high runes.

Made some much needed changes. Increased the chance to find books and elixirs from monsters and chests. You now can only purchase runes in Act 5 as they are no longer for sale in Act 1. You can still purchase gems and skulls in Act 1.

Blood Raven will now drop more items in normal and nightmare. No more gems for sale. Now only a few select runes are for sale. Climbing the rune ladder again will now be an amazing feat for you hunter/gatherers out there.

Made some improvements to the Xinputs hotkey assignment, now the controls are not overly sensitive when trying to assign certain keys to spells. Meadow Fairies now spawn more often. Good luck, people!

I made a new music file that includes the intro music from all previous Sierra Industries expansion packs. I will most likely include this in future updates, but if you would like to preview it, I will provide a download link below...

This will probably be the last update for a while. I've been working all month and I think I have checked off most the things on my list this season. Check back this fall, I will probably be adding some more things later.

Here's the Readme included in this patch, just incase anyone would like to read it beforehand.

HELLFIRE II Readme

Installation

-Install Diablo II and Diablo II: Lord of Destruction from the 1.12a
installers available from the Battle.net Store
-Install the Microsoft Redistributable packages from the 'Package'
folder if they aren't installed already
-Copy your Diablo II directory and rename the folder to 'Hellfire II'
-Upgrade Diablo II: Lord of Destruction to 1.13d using the patch
file available online (I left a link to a mirror below)
-Copy the files from the Hellfire II downloaded zip file to the
new Hellfire II directory
-Set the 'Hellfire II.exe' and 'game.exe' files to be run in
Windows XP Sp2 compatibility mode as administrator
-Set the 'Launcher.exe' to be run as administrator

Multiplayer

The PlugY stash does not work properly in multiplayer mode. I
recommend turning off the extra stash and shared stashes before
playing TCP/IP or your items may be lost. You can turn the stashes on and off quickly by typing '/mpmode on' or '/mpmode off'.

Update 5/06/2022

Hey people,

This is the last update before the final. I added 50 Heirloom items that will drop in normal, these are some familiar items like Grandfather and Windforce, that now, can drop in normal as basic items. I also added better support for slower computers that need more time to load the guild ladder. Hope you all enjoy the changes so far, more good stuff coming this fall!

Sorry, folks. Another postmarked update. On all the items that grant Whirlwind to classes other than Barbarian have been changed to Zeal. I had to do this because some classes can't use Whirlwind without the game locking up.

Hey, thanks everyone for letting me know about the runtime error. As I said before, this won't be fixed anytime soon, work around it please... Thanks, but no one is going to spoon-feed you. Once I find out what is wrong with it, I'll fix it. If I keep getting more garbage posts than actual feed back, I'm going to close the studio. You don't need to tell everyone for the 5th time that you learned how to install Hellfire II. Wow...

Edit: Sorry, I did not specify that the crash was a runtime error on the game dll. It happens at random, not triggered by anything so its impossible to work backwards towards to the point where it originates. I have been working with this error since alpha in 2014. I would just recommend working around it for now and not playing with too many background apps working at once.

Update: I did make this a permanent addition. Bosses in Hell difficulty will now grant a significantly larger amount of experience points now that they are levels 105-110.

More Xinput improvements. Easier to switch through skills now. Potions will be used similar to Diablo 1 on Playstation.

Fixed the diminishing returns from monsters that grant more experience points than the game will allow. Every monster in Hell is level 110. Every level in hell is level 110. Added 5 new Legendary Spears for Samurai paths.

Expanded the experience points limitations on the guild ladder. You can now go over 2 Billion points without being removed from the guild. Should work now, was buggy before.

Things seems to be working correctly now. Guild ladder loading times might take longer now that I expanded the limits and may require some patience on your behalf. This may require more updates to speed things up. The ladder will only update when you set a player note, at the beginning of a new game or when a Hardcore player dies. If you die on Hardcore mode or set a new player note, you might have to wait for the ladder to save before the client closes if exiting. Don't worry it didn't freeze, its still registering... Once I find a way to speed up the ladder saves, the ladder will refresh more often. For now, this is temporary until I sort things out. Good luck, and Thanks for now, everyone...

Update: Good news people. Some people say the ladder is loading in under 10 seconds now. I am running from a cloud with other clients in the user directory and it takes about 3 minutes to refresh... Save times will time out after 5 minutes maximum. I am making the ladder auto refresh every 10 minutes now. Expect delays if you leave the game while the ladder is updating. I will put a new link down below. Good luck, everyone else.
