Struggle for Freedom (SFF) is a difficulty/rebalancing mod for Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age (PC). Note that this patch is intended for English speakers, as there is a necessary file that only works with the English version of the game. The ultimate goal of this mod is to
create a more challenging, rewarding FFXII experience where tactics are rewarded, and where battles are more thrilling than ever.
This mod makes enemies more difficult and offers either the option to play as set, canon roles for each party member, each balanced to fulfill a specific role, the original 12 Jobs, or the PS2 version of the License Board. For a full overview of the changes, please read the Readme file included with the download.

Are you ready to Struggle for Freedom? If so, carry on. A treasure trove of information lies within this Readme, and it's well worth reading everything before playing to get a feel for everything so that there are no surprises later on. Here are some of the biggest changes:
- Enemies have 2x HP and a 1.3x buff to their other stats, making them hit harder and survive longer, requiring new tactics to efficiently take them out. Every single enemy in the game has been edited by hand, and many enemies that use weapons now use different kinds of weapons, such as the Urutan Yensa using Bamboo Arrows instead of Onion Arrows to Poison your party.
- Enemies in Trial Mode have been rebalanced, making Trial Mode more of a post-game experience. Trial Mode enemies are tougher and more durable, and offer different Steals/Drops/Poaches, making it harder to cheese the main game by loading a Trial Mode save.
- Each character has new, set jobs based on their canon appearances in other media. Vaan is a Thief, Penelo is a White Mage, etc. This allows each character to be equally useful in their own way, and ensures that the player has a fair and balanced party at each point in the game. For those wanting the original 12 jobs, an optional version of the mod is included in the download with slightly retouched versions of those 12 boards, as well as completely untouched versions of the 12 jobs and the original PS2 License Board.
- Weapons and armor have been rebalanced and are, generally, more interesting. Most high-tier weaponry has a unique use that makes it usable even when compared to other high-end weaponry. Further, the formerly Invisible items can now be obtained through the Bazaar by using certain rare materials.
- Magicks and Technicks have been reworked to be more interesting. Gravity spells are now Earth and Bio/Scourge are Water, giving the player more elemental options that were lacking in the original. For example, First Aid now restores a flat 10% of a party member's HP without requiring them to be in HP Critical, making it a great free healing option throughout the game.
- Espers now have an expanded array of skills and spells to use, with completely reworked Gambits to take full advantage of their new skillsets.
Thank you for playing! Please send any feedback, bug reports, or even just general comments on whatever thread or board you found this mod on. I'll do my best to keep an eye on everything and reply to feedback as it comes back!
