Alienware has announced its first VR-ready gaming notebooks as revamps of its Alienware 15 and Alienware 17 models. The laptops sport 15.6-inch and 17.3-inch displays respectively, while the physical design has been slimmed down by 25% and the keyboard features new TactX keys.
Within the notebooks themselves, Alienware has added NVIDIA’s new Pascal graphics cards, the GeForce 10-series. The Alienware 17 sports a GTX 1080, while the 15 has the GTX 1070. Both models feature Intel Core i& processors and DDR4 RAM.
In an interview with UploadVR, Alienware’s director of product planning, Joe Olmsted, mentioned that Alienware is also working with both HTC and Oculus on their next generation headsets – hardware which we haven’t of until now. Olmsted says:
“Both of these notebooks we’re announcing are fully VR-certified from day one…We’ve also been working with HTC and Oculus on their next-gen HMDs so we will be VR-ready again when those are ready to come out.”
Alienware is currently showing its new VR-ready notebooks at PAX West, and plans to ship the models later this month. There’s no word yet on a recommended retail price, but as with most Alienware products, expect to pay a premium for the extremely high-end specs.
