This month in modding...

From April till May, everything seems to grind to a halt with no significant number of new games released due to the top titles being saved for the holiday season (provided the game is released on time of course). But, as always, the mod and indie game scene works throughout, so thankfully we have a few new releases to showcase this month.

The highlight this month is yet another remake... yeah yeah I know what you are thinking, what is the deal with all the remakes and sequels and why is it infecting the mod scene? Well mods range from totally wacky creative genius stuff... to remakes (plus everything in between) and that is what makes them so great. If you want it chances are someone else in the mod scene has attempted to create it, you just have to search. Anyhow back to the topic at hand, this months MUST PLAY MOD is Perfect Dark: Source a justified remake! Why is it justified? Firstly the original kicked serious ass, two because the original game was on the N64 and not many of us can be bothered dusting that off nowadays with the Wii about, three not many of us own a N64 to begin with and four because they can and because PC multiplayer games also kick-ass. So there you have it.

Quite a number of other mods were also updated and released this month. Here is a list of some of the more notable ones. A prototype mod called The Way for HL2 JUST came out and has some breathtaking visuals, The Awakening was released for the HL2 single-player fans looking to fill in some time before Episode 2 comes out. Movie fans will be pleased by the v3.0 release of EQ Gunkatas for Max Payne 2 a mod inspired by the film Equilibrium which encourages people to do crazy-looking-slow-mo-stuff with guns akimbo! Also continuing the remake theme is the mod Mars Wars for UT2004 with v2.0 of the game a faithful remake of the console classic Red Faction.

A number of patches also came out and here is a quick summary for your convenience. TO:Crossfire v1.7 for UT2004, Warsow v0.3 a standalone tournament based game, Decloak: Source v1.6 for HL2, Build Mod v14.7 for Pirates of the Caribbean and about 20 new versions of 1986 a S.T.A.L.K.E.R configuration mod are all available to download this month.

Finally for those who are not already competing in our Ultimate Tournament Player model making competition, we have launched a new skinning competition in partnership with the car maker Scion called Skin2Win which challenges people to come up with a slick paintjob for a Scion car. So if you fancy your chances check it out as there is $1000 dollars up for grabs! Well that is it for another month (doesn't time fly!?). Thanks for reading!
