In the interest of bringing our community cool new competitions to participate in and win neat prizes, Mod DB has partnered up with Scion and AmpedMods - to present Scion Skin2Win!
So if you are feeling creative and want to give a Scion car a slick paintjob - now is your chance. Not only that but the person who creates the best skin (as voted by you) will walk away with $1000 dollars cash.
To get started and read the full competition details, head on over to Scion.ampedmods.com. There you can download the 3D models which you are then able to paint, stylize, and modify (add your own spoilers, rims etc).
There will be a $1,000 prize for the Overall Best Entry plus gift certificates and games for runners-up in the following categories; user voted best entry, user voted runner up and for the best Scion tC entry and the best Scion xB entry. You have 1 month to make your creation with the competition closing on June 25, 2007... so you better get started!
Good Luck ALL!
Not only can you skin it but they give you the option to modify the actual model. That means you have to do real work if you want a chance in hell of winning... $1,000 bucks sounds great and all but if you gonna work your butt off you expect to get paid, lol...
rs4cal, Initially when we first came up with the idea for the competition we were going to make it a skinning competition only. However we wanted to be able to give modders as-much freedom as possible and flexibility to showing off their creations so we thought that minor changes to the model itself wouldn't be a bad thing.
Remember just because a car has a new shiney spoiler or something does not mean it will win, the skin matters just as much!
I'm probably gonna do it. :D
sweet im all over this :D
I cant skin :(.
At first I thought the prize was a car.
MODDBUSER that is totally wrong. What can you really do to modify a car that actually looks good? Add a spoiler, lower it, add a bodykit etc... I mean that hardly makes a massive difference and if you did try to do something really fancy it generally ends up crap.
Check out the scion site or the image above (made by the scion guys) for ideas on skins. Just a few different colors here and there can look awesome, so you need not make anything complex.
too bad thay need the final file in MaX.......kinda screws us Maya guys and gals over.
i wish i could skin :(
Bah, if it was for guns I would join. But I'm not good with cars =(
Erm.. now the webpage loaded (very slowly though) and i downloaded the files but i seem to have the SAME problem as KrAyZiE.
Can not open the files. Winrar tells me: !
E:\downloads\Skin2Win_Scion_xB.zip: The archive is either in unknown format or damaged
Never heard of scion before
im sorry but i would not disgrace myself by doing anything related to scion >_>
Good luck to all people entering, we are keen to see what you come up with! :)
If you have any questions on the competition contact myself or INtense!

Yar cars are boring to make :(
Waiting for a coding competition =_=
If I could skin, I'd be the best :D
i may have a go, never really done anything like that though.
@madkill get on with it then ;) lol
That Scion.ampedmods.com link is dead for me. Anyone else? "The connection was reset"
works fine for me...
do the zip files not work for anyone else but me?
cannot open the site either, times out for me.
Can we do our own unwrap jobs? the default ones kind of suck.
how did u all get the models already when it says in the rules that they arent handing them out till may 20th?
"Contestants are to use assets provided by the Skin 2 Win competition, which can be found here May 20th, 2007."
woops my bad for that post sorta lost track of the date haha :nervous:
What's wrong with the zip files?!
i think the website messed up, when i went there yesterday all the zips downloaded fine.
Sorry for posting again but i think it sucks that there is the option that we can edit the model as well, it should be either modeling or texturing. the last contest was already about modeling. I am only able to texture but now that i read it is wished that we also edit the default model i dont even have to start because nomatter how good my texture is, i wouldnt have a chance with the default model.
the .obj has all the same information that the max file has.
idn if it was just me... but the windows were not mapped.
the unwrap job is horrible. The windows and windshield wipers are overlayed over all the other uv coordinates, i thought maybe they put them on a separate channel, i guess we have to do that ourselves.
