This month in modding...

Before I get into this month's mod releases, I wanted to let you know that in less than a week Mod DB v4 (a totally revamped) site will be launched. We are hyped up and hope to see you on the new site - for details check this news. Now back to the mods. The big release this month weighing in at 1.3gig came from a small team of Aussies, who put their heart and soul into creating Allied Intent Extended for Battlefield 2. It is a hell of an effort from a team of 5 modders and worth checking out.

Allied Intent Extended

Next up is a mod that many have been waiting for, for a long-long time (since Mod of the Year 2006) in-fact where this mod placed 4th. Minerva has been a favourite among HL2 single player gamers for a good while, and there is a good reason too. It is a damn polished single player experience, with good twists, turns and storyline to boot. Another amazing mod which is basically led and made by just 1 individual. Chapter 4 has just been released (along with chapters 1 through 3), so if you haven't played the full series yet, now's your chance.

MINERVA

Quite a few of the popular "big name" mods released patches and updates this month so let's run through them now. Battle Grounds 2 for HL2 came out with v1.1b. Classic Doom 3 a mod which brings back the original in full frightening 3D glory on the D3 engine came out with v1.3.1. Another single-player classic CSS SCIFI came out with v2.1. Finally a massively popular mod based on the top book / movie series Lord of the Rings just revealed v2.0 open beta. It is a great looking mod with tons of players raving about it, so if you have Total War installed and want to enter a fantasy world of hobbits, elves, dwarves (and more) this mod comes highly recommended. About 30 more mods were released this month, so if none of these took your fancy check out this months releases for GTA, C&C, Starcraft, Quake and Max Payne stuff.

Concept Art Comp

Before I wrap up, don't forget to look out for Mod DB v4 in the next few days. We have tons of exciting content and competitions planned to celebrate the launch, they'll be heaps to see and do so we hope to see you browsing around. Speaking of competitions we are currently running a concept art contest with 2 Alienware PCs up for grabs. So if you feel artistically inclined, join in the fun and check out the great game-art the Mod DB community is currently producing.
