Medieval Matriarchs is a mod for CK3, originally uploaded to the Steam Workshop.
Steam workshop link for latest version and updates. I was asked to upload here for those who couldn't get it from the Steam workshop.
To install, you only need to unpack the zip file directly to your Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings 3\mod directory.
0.9.32 - 6.12.2022
- Lots of small tweaks and fixes, including removing duplicate tenets and resizing the dynasty UI when you have 3 rows of legacies. Also updated several events that were changed in 1.6.0. Howver, see known issues below.
Known Issues
- When loading a save game as a female ruler with female concubines, it is possible that your children may be incorrectly assigned with one of your female concubines as their mother, instead of you. They will still be of your dynasty and may still inherit your titles, but will be incorrectly regarded by the game in many circumstances as a simple courtier of your dynasty. So far, I've only seen this affect the player ruler, and not AI.
- Because I have no idea what is causing this (I didn't include any code that could change a child's mother, because it was unnecessary for what I've done in my mod so far), I've included a simple debug-only interaction allowing you to adopt children of your concubines, provided they are of your dynasty and not heir to any titles that aren't yours, reassigning them to you. This, however, may cause them to appear twice in the character window UI panel under children, I haven't figured out how to adjust this yet (my GUI modding is still amateurish at this point).
- As I do not understand the root cause of this issue, I'm not sure when/if I'll be able to fix it. If I can, however, I'll at least remove the UI panel duplicate.
Recent Updates
0.9.3 - 6.5.2022
- Compatibility update for 1.6.0.
- Court Eunuchs altered slightly, the "Offer Eunuch" interaction can now target any landed ruler, it just only provides benefits to the dynasty if they have the proper culture (depends on the eunuch) or legacy.
- New tradition: Hedonists. Can enable lesbian debauch activities even if you don't follow a carnal faith or have the proper traits/focus. Additionally, provides renown for hosting certain activities, and boosts the debauchess and reveler traits with additional prestige, also making those traits easier to obtain or upgrade. Finally, stress gain is reduced, and hosting one of the valid activities will boost the development growth of your capital county and nearby counties. Available as long as your faith doesn't consider the reveler traits to be sinful.
- Various other small tweaks and fixes.
Plans for Next Update
My next update is planned to include some unique decisions for the duchy of the Aegean Isles and the Isle of Lesbos.
If anything breaks, let me know.
Overview
- This mod was inspired by Lesbocracy for Crusader Kings 2. It's something of an experimental project, me playing around with the modding capabilities of CK3 while trying to adapt features from that mod into CK3.
- The mod is not yet complete, hence a "0.8.x" release. I might be a while off from something I can consider a 1.0, as I intend to work on a few smaller-scale projects before coming back to work on this mod. However, this mod does have a good amount of features that have been personally tested and work well.
- The primary features of the mod aim to give flavorful and mechanically interesting ways to elevate the status of women in a world that (under default settings) is primarily male-dominated. It also has features which emphasize homosexual female romance and sexuality (to a point, I'm intending to keep the text on the level of the base game and Lesbocracy in terms of what kind of content is allowed).
- Regarding game rules, note that this mod is designed around the historical/default settings for Gender Equality and Same-Sex Relations/Marriage. If you adjust these settings some parts of the mod may become redundant or weird (though it should still work).
- Personal thanks to Buzhidao for making Lesbocracy, and for giving me permission to publish this mod based on their own work.
Main Features
- Adds a decision to start a Matriarchal Dynasty. This gives you certain bonuses, as well as access to a new Dynastic Legacy tree. The tree and the modifier are meant to enable female-favored succession even while following a male religion.
- Adds a series of new decisions that allow you to change your faith (if your faith meets certain prerequisites) to be more Equal.
- Adds a new activity for an all-female gathering. If you know Lesbocracy, you can probably guess what this is.
- Adds a new scheme for homosexual or bisexual women to awaken an interest in women in heterosexual or asexual women.
- Adds two new lesbian-themed core religious tenets, enabling same-sex marriage.
- Adds new traditions focused on Amazons.
- Fully integrates my Traditional Tenets mod.
- Player characters playing as women can get random events to change their sexuality while hosting feasts and hunts.
- Some other misc features and events for followers of faiths with the new tenets.
- For a more detailed list of features, I must direct you to this link. It is too long to fit in this description. See also for compatibility details.[/LIST]
Compatibility
- Unlikely to be compatible with most religious mods, though cosmetic mods that add additional icons should be fine.
- To reiterate, if a mod changes Tenet/Doctrine selection in any way, it likely will be incompatible with certain parts of this mod.
- Most total overhaul mods are also right out.
- When Buzhidao releases their CK3 mod I'll see if I can't cobble together a compatibility patch.
Feedback
Comments and criticism is welcome, especially from a technical side of things. While I am open to suggestions, I do have some specific things I want to accomplish with the mod, so I likely won't be adding things like supernatural events.
Goals and Plans
If bugs or issues are discovered, I will do my best to address them, as well as make any modifications I can to make the mod more compatible with other mods without sacrificing the core features of this mod. When Buzhidao releases their own mod, I also want to see if a compatibility patch between this and that will be possible to make, if so, I'll certainly do so.
