This is an unofficial CONTINUATION for Third Age Total War, the classical Lord of the Rings Medieval 2 mod discontinued many years ago. It adds lots of new features, changes some existing ones and add many bug fixes. This unofficial release has no link to the original TATW mod creator, its a independent project. Though it uses the original mod as basis, and all credits are given to its original creators.

This is the main, latest standalone release. You don't need any previous version of TATW installed.
This mod includes a tool called M2TWEOP. It's a memory patch editing of the original game executable (NOT AN EDITED VERSION OF THE ORIGINAL GAME .EXE!). It enhances the game, expanding its original hardcoded limits, allowing the game to have more features.
This mod IS NOT COMPATIBLE with other mods like DAC.
You need MEDIEVAL 2 TOTAL WAR: KINGDOMS installed (it can be any of the expansion campaigns)

- Dwarf Breachers and Bombardier units now cannot climb walls or push siege engines
- Edited descr_formations.txt and descr_formations_ai.txt so to reposition handlers (wich are heavy infantry in mod) in formations
- Ajusted a fort in Gondor that had a vanilla battlemap model. Now it has the custom gondorian one.
- Reworked undead unit (now with all animations and models)
- More campaign map music for different factions
- Fixed garrison script not working when settlement is under siege
- Fixed Osgiliath building tree (its unique barrack building was not available as well as the Guards of Osgiliath unit)

DISABLE YOUR ANTIVIRUS.
EXTRACT THE CONTENT OF THE .RAR FILE INSIDE ...\medieval II total war\mods
Add M2TWEOP GUI.exe AND the entire mod folder to the antivirus exceptions. OTHERWISE THE ANTIVIRUS WILL DELETE FILES IN THE MOD FOLDER.
NOW YOU CAN ENABLE YOUR ANTIVIRUS AGAIN.

BUTTON AND NAVIGATE TO THE ORIGINAL MEDIEVAL 2 GAME FOLDER, SELECT MEDIEVAL2.EXE OR KINGDOMS.EXE (DEPENDING ON YOUR GAME VERSION).CHECK THE BOX IN STEP 2 OF THE WINDOW.CLICK "SAVE" IN STEP 3.CLOSE THE WINDOW. ITS DONE. YOU ONLY NEED TO DO THIS ONCE, FROM NOW ON YOUR GAME IS PATCHED.
#################### TROUBLESHOOTING: ######################
THERE IS NO VIRUS IN THIS MOD. THE MEMORY PATCH THIS MOD USES (M2TWEOP) IS OFTEN RECOGNIZED AS A VIRUS BY ANTIVIRUSES, BUT THIS IS A FALSE ALARM. ITS JUST THAT ITS A "ROGUE" TOOL SO ANTIVIRUSES TEND TO SEE IT AS A MENACE. THERE IS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE PLAYING THIS MOD NORMALLY. ANY PROBLEM YOU GO THROUGH IS VERY LIKELY RELATED TO YOUR ANTIVIRUS DELETING THE MOD FILES. MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOWED THE INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS CORRECTLY.
If you're still having any problem in running this mod, try the following solutions in sequence:
1 - Check the game installation folder. If you installed MEDIEVAL 2 in an external HD, for example, that migh lead to problems. Install the game in the standart folder.
2 - Double check if you unpacked the MOD inside the /mods folder and not anywhere else.
3 - If you get a crash saying you need Kingdoms, then just make a copy of medieval2.exe and rename it to kingdoms.exe
4 - If you cant launch the game, see if your medieval2.exe and kindoms.exe launcher are of the same size. If not, delete kingdoms.exe, make a copy of medieval2.exe and name it kingdoms.exe (both launchers should be 19 212 kB)
5- Try removing/enabling compability settings for your medieval2.exe and kingdoms.exe, as seen below. This seems to work differently for everyone, so you need to try the variants for yourself. (for example for one person, medieval2.exe in compability settings makes him unable to start the game, while for others it works)
6- Install visual DirectX/Redist c++ from here:

This will fix the "cannot load .../MTWEOPLibrary.dll" error.
----TIPS FOR CRASHES DURING GAME----
If you crash upon loading saves/starting campaigns, try running a quick/custom battle first.
If you have low FPS, try to turn off shadows, decrease unit size, or decrease your graphics in general and give high priority to Medieval II in Task Manager. If you have lags/lows FPS, you can try this TOOL.
If you have steam overlay enabled, it should help with performance greatly, if you disable it.
#################### KNOWN BUGS: ######################
THE MOD IS NOT BROKEN. IT'S BEEN TESTED FOR LONG, THOUGH YOU MAY CROSS THE FOLLOWING ISSUES...
- Random crashes can happen. Its a mod. If the crash happens everytime you try to fight a specific battle, try autoresolving the battle.
- Menu problems like crashes and returning to the previous menu after clicking a button is either a problem of corrupt installation or corrupt download. The same goes to sound problems. Playing in windowed mode can also cause crashes.
- Weird bugs like not being able to build or recruit units in settlements is due to corrupt download or installation. Simply download and install it again.
- The bridge of Erebor is bugged for some players, while it works absolutelly fine for others. I have no idea why. For now its a bug I can't fix.
- The Uruk Bombardiers unit will cause the game to crash if the unit detail in video settings is NOT set to "highest". For now its a bug I can't fix.
- The siege bomb unit (Isengard) is not fully functional for AI. Cant make it better for now
-Sometimes the One Ring feature will bug, saying the ring was found in two different settlements at the same turn. There is a fix planned for future versions.
- The bridges of the trade posts custom battlemaps are bugged. Still didnt decide what to do with it yet.
- Clicking CITADEL in custom battle menu will cause crash. Simply click first in any other level then change to citadel, this will work.
Unfortunately, it keeps saying:
Cannot select exe file! Need correct medieval2 or kingdoms

I have the exact same Problem,
i disabled my complete Windows defender Firewall and I still canĀ“t start it.
Copy the EXE then paste creating a new one then rename it kingdoms.

I've done all the steps to download the game but once I do that I can't find the icon to let me get into the game. Does anyone know why or can help.
probably your antivirus is deleting the app.
you must prevent this by adjusting your antivirus, as explained in the instructions.
I keep getting ctd's whenever I'm about to fight Angmar. This is frustrating and I have no idea why. Have followed the instructions for a clean install.
In earlier versions ctd's were always caused by creatures like spiders, but so far as I can tell no such creature would be present.
Would really like some help, because as it stands I cannot continue my campaign. Well, I could console my way out, but that's no fun and also doesn't solve my problem. Plz halp!

There is problem with Angmar unit-Corrupted Horde. I retrained my starting unit from 303 to above 700 men and if i went to battle with this unit, game keeps crashing. I fixed this by setting number of men to 120, this give 303 soldiers on huge unit size. No crashes with Angmar to 90 turn so far.
There is similar inconsistency in Siege Trolls of Gundabad. Unfortunatelly i'm unable to fix this.

There is no crash in battle, like with 700 men Horde.
But numbers of soldiers and upkeep doesnt seem Ok.
After recruiting (cost 1000), i got unit of 8 soldiers and upkeep 148. If i pay 600, numbers of soldiers goes up to 20 and upkeep to 370.
But both version in battle have 8 soldiers and 4 figures!
Is situation that i have option to reinforce freshly recruited unit (Horde and siege trolls) intended?

Please help me try to get this going. I followed this guide Youtu.be along with the guide above. I've tried several things (disabled antivirus, ran as admin, etc) and I can't get it to run. I keep getting errors about missing files and my options don't display the same as the one in the video at least.
Also I'm very much not tech savvy so explain it to me like I'm a boomer lol
Read install and troubleshooting guides by Leo, there are enough to solve problems. For example: Install visual DirectX/Redist c++ from here: Drive.google.com

Thanks III---Leo---III for working on this mod. I've played multiple versions of this and always enjoyed. I have noticed some feature errors or bugs that causes crashes:
- Fornost Erain is scripted to get besieged by rebels, but since they will assault without making rams, battle will result into instant draw (there is a wooden palisade arround town)
- Annuminas gets beseiged too, but enemy will not attack (only if you put your unit in front of your "gate")
- Kingdom of Arnor can't be reforged anymore, since Annuminas has been changed into settlement instead of castle in the previous patches(House of Kings is only available to build for castle)
- Corrupted horde causes crash whenever their numbers are above 303 men - this happens when they get retrained or merged after battle

Currently I am playing with the Dwarfs and get the issue than wenever I occupy an allerady developed castel or settlement I can not recruit any units at all. They are simply not showen. It would be quite nice if you could help me with that issue.

recruitment polls are not linked to settlement types or levels but actually to the buildings inside it and each unit requires a given level of culture before being made available for recruiting.
you need to convert the culture of the region before recruiting.

when playing High elves, the sindaran archer look like ghosts. They function fine but they are silvery whight. Tried adjusting graphics settings with no change. happens in all terrain.

I've been enjoying the game for a little while, but now I get "medieval 2 total war encountered unspecified error and will now exit" after every other battle. I've tried some stuff but I don't know how to fix this issue.
