Knights and Barbarians is a total conversion for Age of Empires III and both its expansions. Command armies from one of fourteen medieval powers in detailed, intense battles to defend or expand your kingdom. The timeline of Knights and Barbarians stretches from the twilight of the Roman Empire to the infancy of the Italian Renaissance. New content includes unique gameplay mechanics, units, factions, maps, music, and much more.
We know a lot of you aren't very enthousiastic about the use of AoE3's Fort models to represent medieval Castles in K&B. Nor are we, to be frank. The elephant in this particular room is of course the very obvious presence of cannons on the Forts' towers, something we've attempted to fix in K&B by retexturing them, but obviously that wasn't much of a solution, and did little to fix the underlying issue. However, we now believe to have fixed it properly:
Yes, it's a new model. Its primary feature are the wooden hoardings, cunningly shaped so as to completely hide the cannons from sight, and thus make the Castle look significantly more medieval. However, since we needed a new model, we figured we might as well add some proper parapets to the walls, and for no particular reason we also added the tower/balcony arrangement at the back. Just a note: The textures are still work in progress. The texture of the Castle itself hasn't been altered much since adding the attachment, something we do intend to fix. Oh, and similar setups for the Middle Eastern Castle, as well as the new ones for the Quintessence, are also underway.
In other news, our resident portrait and icon creator Persian_Fusilier has been busy creating new artwork for K&B's mercenaries:
Please comment!
This week, in an event utterly unrelated to K&B, Pepp got very angry at (or possibly about) a famous Walloon detective:
Pepp wrote: Poirot! How dare you leave me in this country?!
K&B salutes... super7700, for evidently being very good at linking K&B's religions to their appropriate icons.
K&B refutes... Ukraine's president Viktor Yanukovich. Not content with being a mere puppet of Vladimir Putin, his stubbornness now literally causes the destruction of Kiev...

I put the folders in the right places. But the version remains 1.2.2. Shouldn't it be 1.2.4? It has only 5 civilizations and each one repeats twice. That's right?
Not possible, the 1.2.4 is the latest one prior to the original team disbanding. It has a lot of bug fixes and card icons for the missing ones in the previous versions. And yes - the civs repeat themselves. That was the original design. Its about to change though - when - we dont know. Life is tough these days and theres not much time for modding. But me and Cesco will try to deliver a playable test version for the extended edition as soon as possible. Cheers
Yes, 1.2.2 is the latest one. Yes it is normal, I'm not one of the developers but I suppose they decided to repeat the civs to make 4v4 matches possible.
Hello, i download all the files and replace em in the folder i got Age of Empires 3. But the game boots as AOE3 Asian Dynasties, not as this mod.
There are 2 folders: "Knights and Barbarians" and "place this in -my games-" folder.
Place the folder that says " place this in -my games- folder" into my games. It should look like C:\Users\yourusername\Documents\My Games\Knights and Barbarians
And the 500mb-ish folder is the folder you open and you copy and paste in the actual game.
Hey, is this mod playable on AOE3: DE?
No, it is not. And its a lot of work to port it to DE, and i mean A LOT of work. So its better to modernize the looks of this one and extend it instead of porting it to DE. At this point of the improving/reviving of this mod, almost all icons and portraits have been replaced with their DE more polished counterparts. So the mod itself will have a DE feel with its UI.
Is there any way to follow the progress of your revival of this mod?
