Volition rock if this blog post on idolninja is anything to go by. Apparently according to a chain of emails between "idol" and crew from Volition LA (Jeff Thompson, the Studio Director of Programming, Alex Mejia and Steve Jaros), mod support will be coming to Saint's Row 2 and 3 as a "test run" in the lead up to Saint's Row IV release. To quote idol:
So, what does this actually mean to the average Saints Row player? In simple terms, the modding community will finally be able to create and offer new clothing, new vehicles, new guns, new npcs, new missions, and even new world geometry which will greatly extend the life of the series and enhance the Saints Row games in ways we never even dared to dream of.
Huge thanks go out to the gaming community who pushed this (and idol the primary architect), no doubt this is a decision that Volition will be reaping the rewards from once the work is done and the tools are out. For discussion check out the modding wishlist thread. Very exciting stuff, with PC gaming stronger than ever it's great to see developers returning to their roots and bringing modding back!

And I recently created a new Saints Row 3 character, **** yeah!
About time! Heck yeah!
WOOOOOO!! They took a page from GTA. I have been trying to decide whether to get Saints Row 2 for awhile now. If this is for real I'll probably end up getting it.
1.GTA moders had to make their own tools
2.Rockstart,last time I checked hates their modding communities.
2.
their mistake.
If rockstar hates the modding communities, explain to me why they've shown off GTA mods? Why does the SA website talk about modding? Why does rockstar leave files for modders in their games?
Simply because they are impressed what ppl can do without original dev made tools with their game? Or how persistant modders are in making their game more polished, better looking, still liked even since so much time have passed? You decide. :P
Shut up fanboi. So what if they "talked" about modding. What have they done for the modding community?

and I sold the game last day **** noo
Well, Saints 2 is pretty cheap on steam. Might be the time to go check it out.
They had SR3rd on sale recently too.
That's when I got it.
And before that there was the THQ Humble Bundle.
I'd advice against it, Saints Row 2 had by far the WORST PC port I have ever seen.
You haven't played Red Faction Guerilla.
how about Ricochet?
Guerilla is a bad port? You really haven't played any ports then, Guerrila was a really good port.
Well you havent played Dark Souls then but yeah the SR2 port was pretty bad
I guess no one here had to suffer through the PC version of RE4.
I didn't think the re4 port was that bad but with saints row 2 I still can't even get past the logos (I'm pretty sure its not the computer as it runs most modern games fine)
Then try re-installing I have never had a problem with the logos.
That's called troubleshooting. If your PC can't run it and others can, it probably *is* your computer.
I know RE4 , i played the whole game so annoying that thr game didnt have mouse support
The latest version of Gentelmen of the Row mod (released not too long ago) already makes it a bit more stable.
@BoneofFear
Yes it does, but it's still the most unstable and poorly made port I have ever played...

..Yarrrrr
Hopefully someone could mod SR2 to be *slightly* less buggier.
Or perhaps I'm hoping too much?
There is a huge possibility, people always release unofficial patches.
Or perhaps go the other way, Saints Row 2 in SR3s engine.
From what Idolninja and other's on the SR Mod.com forms have been talking about. That could happen, which the consumer would need a copy of SR2 to be able to use the mod.
Glorious. Pimpin' is back !
"Gentlemen of" surely wasn't enough ! ;)
Good to see another developer support modding. Let's hope many more will follow.
Looking forward to this. Saints Row 3 was super fun and I look forward to seeing what mods appear.
I heard about this on the Saints Row mod site - Exciting stuff! I will definitely be playing around with the tools once they're released.
I know one of you can and will mod so can some one create swat team clothes for the player?
Swat/Stag clothing for the player, as well as having the military gang options. I want a personal army.
I might try and give it a shot if no one else does.
Are you talking about the soldier outfits? Because those are a selectable gang.
If it gets released, someone should make a huge weapon mod for SR2/3
I just hope they'll have mod support for IV within a reasonable amount of time. Though it'll probably only happen after they pump out a megaton of DLC.
Me and Minimaul have been working non-stop with the V devs over the past few days testing and writing docs for beta tools for the sdk. This is happening faster than we had ever hoped for. :)
Thanks for doing this.
(buried)
IdolFag..pig ****..eating queer..it seems your ugly *** is everywhere.
Luckily I bought SRT3 during last summer's sale.
Other dev's should take note on this (like DICE).
Wow, they can just slap on 'mod support' after completing the game? That sounds pretty interesting, I hope it won't be too buggy then :/
Someone should totally make stillwater and all the weapons with upgrades on number 2
Or better yet, make Steelport in SR3 with the enhanced clothing options!
I miss the clothing options from number two , i meant to say from my last comment rebuild stilwater in number 3 or possible in 4 i like stilwater better then steelport and also the weapons from the number 2 aswell
Right, my bad. I thought that Steelport was the city that was in SR1 and 2.
But you're right, the clothing was so much better in SR2.
times like this, makes me hate the idea that i got the game on xbox so i cant mod
