This month in modding...

Normally the year starts off slowly, as people enjoy their winter / summer holidays (depending on your hemisphere), students go back school, and full time work resumes for the rest of us. Not this year... well, at least for modding. 2007 is already shaping up to be massive, with many new (and old) star studded next-gen mods churning out their latest release. And since the previous newsletter was all about the 2006 Mod of the Year competition, we have a ton of news to catch up on, so let's begin.

The flavor of the month seems to be a Cyberpunk mod by the name of Dystopia. For those not familiar, a beta was released over a year ago to give gamers a taste of what was to come. After another year of hard work and polish, version 1 is out and the unanimous verdict is "this mod rocks!" So if multiplayer, team based, cyberpunk themes interest you - grab it now!

Dystopia

Jailbreak, a classic mod which has been remade for countless games has finally been made on the Source Engines. For those who fancy the show "Prison Break", start practicing your escape skills here.

Gutter Runners, a mod which pits man vs. rat was also released, along with Pirates Vikings & Knights II (PVKII) which, as the name suggest, pits these three fearsome misfits against each other.

Plenty more mods were updated and released, so if you had any free time expect it to be sucked up now! Some of the titles include Entity Hunter for HL2 (Duck Hunt's back!), Alien Swarm: Escape for Rhea for UT2004, a HL2 single player mod called CSS SCI FI, Forth Eorlingas for Total War, Battle Grounds II for HL2, Insects Infestation for HL2 and lastly Project Reality for BF2 (which happened to finish 2nd in the 2006 MOTY competition!).

And if all that isn't enough, next month Natural Selection 3.2, Eternal Silence 2.3, Master Blaster and Fruit Life mods are all coming your way. So stay tuned and keep on gaming! Oh and for all the mappers out there, Addon DB is running a competition you maybe interested in!
