Post tutorial Report RSS Get your mods to work with your EAW/ FOC Gold pack

Five really easy steps tutorial on how to get your EAW/ FOC mods to work with your Gold Pack.

Posted by on - Basic Other

Step 1) Go into your EAW/ FOC game folder in the program files.

(For beginners: Either right click your EAW/ FOC desktop icon, go to properties, and hit find target.
Or go to MyComputer\C: drive\program files\Lucas Arts\ and then pick EAW or FOC for whatever game you want to do this for.)

Step 2) Open Window's Notepad.

For those of you that don’t know where that is, it's located in the Start menu\ programs\ accessories.)

Step 3) In the note pad type this out either sweaw or swfoc depending on which game you picked, then MODPATH=, then MODS the name of your mod.

It should look something like this:
swfoc MODPATH=Mods/Rise_Of_The_Mandalorians

So: swfoc 1 space MODPATH=Mods/Republic_At_War all with no spaces, and both the folder that the mod is in (Mods) and the mod name have to be exactly the same in both their actual names and in the new mod path.

So: Name of game launcher new path way = folder to retrieve files from/ name of files

Step 4) Save, now when you save it through the notepad type ".bat" at the end of your save file.
This will change it to a batch file so it can redirect you. Also, when you save it, save this to the EAW/ FOC folder that you opened in step 1.

When you Save As it will look like this:

Rise_Of_The_Mandalorians.bat

Step 5) Make a copy of this .bat file and put it on your desktop. Or right click the file and hit send to> desktop. That will creat a desktop icon.

Note: You must save the file to the EAW/ FOC fold before putting the icon on your desktop. If you don't the system won’t have a file reference for your desktop icon to go by, and the icon won’t do anything. If you saved it somewhere else and it didn't work just delete it and try again.
You can make as many of these for all your mods as you want, and the icons don't have to be on your desktop if you'd rather have them in a folder.
But the original .bat files MUST BE IN THE EAW/ FOC program folder.

If it worked, the command prompt window will pop-up (it will be a window with black background and white text.) It will hold for a few seconds and then it will load the game with the mod.

If it was done incorrectly, the command prompt will pop-up for a split second then dissappear, and nothing will happen.

I hope this proves useful for those of you who have the gold pack disc copy. Note there are tutorials online on how to setup your mods if your use Steam to play the gold pack.

Good Luck.

When I start the shortcut to the mod it starts the regular forces of corruption, without the mod. (I use light alliance 2.42x). Please tell me why this happens.

I've had lots of people come to me about these 2 issues so I'll just post as a comment.

Q1) Can't save to the EaW or FoC folder.
A) First make sure that is the game folder that has the DATA folder in it not the DATA folder it self. Second check your administrator restrictions. If there is more than one profile on your computer, windows may only let the original Admin make such changes thoe very unlikely if you have admin privileges. Also, make sure that the folder you're saving to has the EaW or FoC's (depending on which game its for) .exe file in it. If it doesn't it won't let you save there. Note: the .exe file for those of you that are unsure what it is, is the extention to start/ run the game. It'll look like the desktop Icon. Depending on the game, the begining of your batch should say sweaw for Empire at War and swfoc for Forces of Corruption.

Q2) When you use the .bat file is starts the regular game.
A) This is simply a read error. Meaning that somewhere in your .bat file you miss typed something or didn't connect it correctly to the mod, or it could be that the origninal .bat was not saved to the game's folder. It needs to save to the game to proporly connect to the .exe file. In the end the batch should read like so.

"swfoc MODPATH=Mods/Return_of_the_Clones"
Minus the parentheses. Also make sure that if your mod folder reads MODS and not Mods the batch needs to read exactly the same way.

I am not receiving notifications that people are leaving me comments so if you have any questions please feel free to message me. I'd be happy to help you.

This tutorial is for the Disc version, not the steam. As far as steam goes, I'm not sure. I will have to try it. It should be the same way, the only difference is where all the game files are stored. Instead of being stored in Programs folder in the drive, it would be in a sub-folder in the steam apps or games folder. I will check and post my results as soon as I can. Sorry for the wait.

Just wanted to clear this up, my explanation was a little confusing. When you save the .bat file, it needs to be saved in the game's folder NOT!!! the DATA folder and NOT!!! the mods folder. And it needs to be saved in the game's folder that is running the mod. So if you are using a mod for FoC in needs to be in the FoC game folder, not in both, and not in the EaW folder. If its for EaW only, then save it there and not in the FoC folder.

Ok so here is a link to short and easy tutorial on how to use mods with steam. Its almost the same as the disc but steam does the work for you.

Forums.steampowered.com

Looks like you right click the game in steam chose Launch Properties and just type the mod path swfoc MODPATH=Mods\"mod name" like in my tutorial, and then it'll ask you to chose Eaw or FoC hit the one you want to play and done. As long as the mod is in the mods folder. Which is no different then the disc version, only all the files are in the steam apps folder. Hope this helps.

MTGraves - Personally, I can't thank you enough. I figured since this was an older game, no mods existed for it. Then, when I found some, I couldn't use them cuz of the whole "gold pack" deal. You've given me A New Hope & Ur a real a light saber bro! *snark snark
I will say this, I wasn't sure if I was saving the batch file to the Mods folder, or to the swfoc folder, but I figured it out. I'm now downloading a huge mod file, ( cuz I deleted thinking they were useless to me having gold pk.) but I'm pretty sure it'll work now, cuz when I click on the batch file, the DOS screen pops up, then SWFOC does run. So, thanks again a gazillion times.

Yes, in the main directory make a folder called 'Mods' (without the marks of course, but it is case sensitive) this is the folder you place your mod folders in. Hope this helps
