Post tutorial Report RSS A fix for AMD/ATI GPUs (Version 0.95b only)

Sikkmod shader suite is known to have multiple issues with systems that are equipped with an AMD/ATI GPU. Here's an easy way to remedy this:

Posted by on - Basic Other

  • 1) Go to the game directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Doom 3) and find:

Doom3.exe

  • 2) Make a new copy of this file with the following name: Doom_3.exe
  • 3) Right-click on Doom_3.exe and select "Create shortcut"
  • 4) Move that shortcut to the desktop, then Right-click on it and select "properties".
  • 5) Click on the "Shortcut" tab and put the following line at the end of the "target" field:

+set fs_game redux

Example:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Doom 3\Doom_3.exe" +set fs_game redux

Using this custom shortcut, you will be able to play Doom 3: Redux on an AMD GPU without any issues. The only downside is that you won't be able to use the Steam overlay as the game is now being loaded outside of Steam.

Hey man, thanks a bunch for this! I've been running AMD's since 3 of my Nvidia Cards fried on me (two while playing Crysis and one while playing Rage) so it's great to see someone lend an extra hand to those who run other GPU's.

Also, since this is in the Target field for the shortcut, can't we simply paste the same into the "Set Launch Options" on Doom 3 in our game Library?

You can just add the created Doom_3.exe to steam and put +set fs_game redux in the set launch options, works just as well. :)

Have you renammed "Doom3.exe" in "Doom_3.exe" ? And is the "field" tab of your shortcut looking like the one in the screenshot that I have provided ?

I missed step two, and just made a copy of the original .exe and renamed that, that seems to have been my mistake.
At least I think so. Should I be able to select 1920X1080 from the settings? That doesn't seem to be an option. Also, in the 'mods' tab in the game, should it list anything other than 'Doom 3'?

Thanks for replying.

From what you're saying, it seems you have extracted the mod folder into "base" instead of the main Doom 3 directory. Here's a screenshot of the correct setup:

Media.moddb.com

And indeed, "Redux 0.95 + Sikkmod 1.2" should be listed in the mods tab and it allows you to select a resolution of 1920x1080 once it has been loaded.

I see no options for Catalyst AI in the newer ATI display driver settings.

Yep, right now you can only disable Catalyst AI manually, but the duplicated Exe method is far better ans simpler.

Right I have managed to download it went to unzip it & its asking me for money from some site called WinRAR. what is the point of a free mod which you have to pay £30 for.

I'm not sure I understand your problem. Winrar doesn't need you to pay for it and that's the same for ModDB's downloads.

nexus is a modding site you don't have to pay for so why don't you put your mod on there.

you dont need to pay for winrar.when you extract with winrar jyst close the dialogue that says "buy winrar" or something similar and extract the mod.

Just confirming that it worked for me. The only other thing I had to do was rename the folder back to "Redux" as Peazip gave it another, longer name during the extraction. I have the retail CDs. Graphic Card is Sapphire AMD Radeon R9 280X 3Gb on Windows 7 Pro X64.
Thanks. Looking good.

I'm encountering the same issue of the mouse not appearing in the main menu at all. Any fixes?
