it's pollution because it's not what that community wants. I'm not dissing moddb by calling their votes dirty, but they're seperate communities, and by linking directly to the other poll, you've skewed the results immensely.
And I was right, after the poll was mentioned here, the balanced shifted to "more content" on planet phillip, a site where "more maps" winning by a considerable margin before.
Now it seems like people of Moddb and PP both want more content, when it's really just the people of moddb drowning out the votes of the actual PP community. (and this has been demonstrated by the shift in votes, even though this the previous poll.)
So downvote me all you want, but now Phil's poll isn't an even almost accurate representation of the planetphillip community, and therefore has been polluted
Too bad you had to write a comment to explain it to the users. Why do users prefer to not use their own brain, it's so much closer! One could argue that the ping to the own brain is lower than to the comments on a website, but I guess since Hi-speed internet that is not true any-more.
I think this is a good comparative to the PP community. Both ModDB and PP serve the community equally, but they have two different purposes. This is a great poll
Meaning, there are inaccurate results and if you'd like to have accurate polls, b/c you need to decide if you want to make more of this or that, it totally screws the outlook of what fans want.
Anyway, scripted maps, with much of AI/NPC/whatever stuff are highly enjoyable, too. :-)
I voted for more content, but heavily scripted maps (such as DotA, and so on), are true pearls of mapping and one can't underrate them just b/c they're "maps" and not content like new general weapons, characters, etc.
Maps can contain new objects, locations, ASO, i.e. they can contain unique content inaccessible to other maps, and made only for them alone (for various reasons, e.g. old maps not easy to remake or correct, specific equipment/mode, etc.).
Difficult to say since both new content and new maps can be interesting depending on the game. I've seen well made map mods like Poke646 ( although they added also some new weapons ) as well as content mods like The Ship. So both have their place.
I chose maps, cuz I just love new and interesting layout ideas more than new weapons. Citing a Half-Life mod: Minerva. Some of the best mapping I've ever seen, and it all feels so good, natural, etc.
It really depends on the game, but I chose maps. While I love total conversions, I rarely play mods that simply add a handful of new units or weapons to the existing content for very long, as these mods tend to be unbalanced. However, maps are usually easier to balance and can add variety to a game without causing gameplay issues.
I chose content, but not because maps are included in new content. I chose content because it keeps the game, and eventually the whole gaming industry, fresh with new ideas. Mod members often go off to work on AAA games, and they use the creativity from their experience to make great games (which in turn get modded themselves ;) ). New maps can be fun, but the gameplay can only go so long before it gets old.
I suppose it really depends, but most often I'd like new content.
think about it new content means more story modes wepons characters costumes controls menus cutscenes etc the list is endless. new maps is exactly that, new maps, just plain boring
I voted new maps.
If the game is good new contents are not a must, but the same maps all over again get boring. New content must have a very good quality and needs to be good arranged, most games and modders fail at this point.
It's so annoying if you go on a server with custom sounds and every one is using these very LOUD and HoRRible-BaD sounds all the time. There are servers SYN *cough* ERGY *cough* which kill them self from time to time due to flood excesses (LOL).
Or if you wait for textures and music to be downloaded you never want to hear or see, in a trashy quality. If you got a bad map you have at least seen some new geometry and some creativity :) .
I want both. But if I can only have one then let it be new content. New content adds depth and new maps add length. I think a deep mod will keep my interest longer than a long shallow one.
Bah hard one, had to go with new content, cause that applies to a bigger numbers of games to me. Some games I really like as they are but would like a bigger variation of maps.
This is in response to Planet Phillips poll question, just to see how different the two communitys think. Planetphillip.com
(buried)
noooooooo don't reference the PP poll, the moddb users will pollute it with their own votes (and there are alot more of them)
How is it pollution if it's what community wants?
it's pollution because it's not what that community wants. I'm not dissing moddb by calling their votes dirty, but they're seperate communities, and by linking directly to the other poll, you've skewed the results immensely.

Thats an understandable grievance.
Basically you don't want to contaminate the results to get a cleaner comparison.
Should take a screen shot next time! naturally!
theres a weblink proof for you at henleys comment!

as far as I can imagine this will allways be as one sided as this...
although the Planet Phillips community seems pretty balanced,
then again, from what I can see PP is pretty much HL central, so it is no where near is open as this poll

Content! Because i may create maps for maybe all games myself...
I like new maps, but sometimes enough new maps is enough and you need more content. Sometimes all you get is ******* maps and your left bored!
Shouldnt it be ''More Maps''?
New maps is a feature of New content. In other way - new content gives you not just maps, buy some other coll things too. I've voted for content.
Content: Because ValVe always takes shortcuts!
except on portal a game designed/made buy a bunch of graduates as their first game is ALWAYS full proof
Uhm, depends on Mod and Game? ^^
Content, because maps count as content.
It's hard to say, it depends on the quality of the map or content.
I chose maps, cuz I just love new and interesting layout ideas more than new weapons. Citing a Half-Life mod: Minerva. Some of the best mapping I've ever seen, and it all feels so good, natural, etc.
I like new content. Especially for games such as Team Fortress 2 and Fallout 3.
Both! :D
It really depends on the game, but I chose maps. New content , becaus content incluides maps too.

A mod itself is more content.
More maps suited for the mod please. Maps that weren't made in the same time-span as a CSS Surf map.
Well, there are really many things which should be taken into account, but nevertheless, my answer is content.
think about it new content means more story modes wepons characters costumes controls menus cutscenes etc the list is endless. new maps is exactly that, new maps, just plain boring
I like new content, but maps are also a plus.
same :D
I voted new maps.

New contents include maps.
But new maps is not included new content, it's just a part of new content.
Doesn't that depend on the mod?
Does no one here realize that a new map is new content? This poll is a complete mockery...
I love total conversion mods, or mods that add a new storyline.
I want both. But if I can only have one then let it be new content. New content adds depth and new maps add length. I think a deep mod will keep my interest longer than a long shallow one.
Maps are content.
New content. It can be anything.
I think there should be another option
A healthy balance between the two, for the liberals out there
New maps, new content doesn't make that much of a difference.
Makes a big difference.
To be sincere, games w/o many maps or w/o one very big map aren't long enough. As ChromeAngel and others said, maps prolong the gaming experience.
It's sweet to have both: many maps + a random map generator, and a load of new unique content.
New content definetly.
New maps.
PR only gets new maps roughly once a year nowadays, so by the time a release comes around most people are tired of the current maps.
New content (factions, weapons, vehicles etc.) is also great of course but it doesn't make the experience anywhere near as fresh as new maps for me.
Maps aren't content?
Bah hard one, had to go with new content, cause that applies to a bigger numbers of games to me. Some games I really like as they are but would like a bigger variation of maps.
with new content you can make the current maps to play different imo
New content, keeps old maps fresh :)
new content because it will have a new story and new people to meet and new weapons and gear
if its an rpg- maps rts- content
