I absolutely love the Source engine. Perfect, in my opinion. A breeze to administrate servers (running servers, not playing video game police), very easy to develop for and has an excellent fan base.

Unless you're trying to integrate new art assets, in which case Source is backwards and obstinate.

Um Source is updated everr 2 - 4 years! HL2, HL2-EP1 , Orange Box, L4D , L4D2 Alien Swarm and Portal 2 are all different version that are all compatible with each other but the newer ones have more options / effects (Particles- Orange Box and Instances *L4D are both examples)

Custom built engine with OGRE for the graphics. OGRE isn't a game engine.

They mean it as an example, even though it's not a game engine, it's still an open source engine :)

Unreal Engine 4 IS coming out, though. I still think that CryEngine 3 would be best, though, as much as I like Source.

I'd have to say UDK. It is far superior in the department of accessibility by all members of a development team. Source just takes a bit more effort just to get something working in-game, not to mention it takes more work just to get static meshes working. Come on valve, make it easier just to import static meshes. Stop giving me the whole "Requires a bone" mess and qc bs.

I voted commercial because I am using the Source engine.

However it would be nice to be able to see what it is doing sometimes. A "look but don't touch" open source version wouyld be useful :P
