I voted the Portal Gun, but if Crowbar had been the HL weapon featured in the poll I would have picked that.
I agree - crowbar should have been on that list. If it's been in every game since the start, that makes it a signature weapon :P
On a side note - I voted Gravity Gun. It's one of the most innovative weapons/tools in current modern gaming to deserve a vote! (plus I'm a HUGE HL nerd!!)
I wonder if by 'grav' it can also count the super cyan grav gun that becomes the ultimate tool at the end of HL2 :D

To be honest, since that's only in a brief part of the game, I wouldn't say it is ironic of HL2. If anything, it seems far more iconic of Garry's Mod.
Yeah crowbar should be inplace of the gravity gun.

I thought about voting AWP to be a prick, but I think I'm going to have to pick what's probably the best assault rifle in Stalker, the Groza OC-14 (known as the Tunder S14 in-game due to copyright issues.) It just seemed like a signature weapon to me. No, it's not great for long-distance sniping (I carry a ZM LR300 and sometimes a Val for that) but in a serious firefight it's sheer brutality.
I picked the AWP, course I use to play lots of CS. =P

Of course portal gun, gravitygun and redeemer are nice gadgets but AWP is the most effective and skilled weapon :D
coming from a hardcore halo community i would say pistol over the battle rifle anyday (since u only stated halo not halo 2,3). But im a portal gun fan...

The portal 'gun' is not a weapon per se- it was designed with shower curtains in mind, not killing people.
However, that there's *nothing* else like it when it comes to using your environment as a weapon (not to mention it's ability to be used for instantaneous transport, or that it makes a fantastic shower curtain (try *that* with your AWP)) means it gets my vote.
I think you may be forgetting that the Portal guy is indeed deadly, instant-kill deadly in fact. The only reason we don't consider it all that powerful is because we have not had the chance to fight with it. Of course it is a little too slow to be of much use long range, although thats what teleporting is for.
The humble shotgun(preferably spas) is my fave.

Out of those, the only truly iconic weapon is definitely the BFG. The rest are all just the 'powerful' or 'most used' weapons of other games.
Either way, the humble double barreled shotgun of Doom / Quake has got to be in. Especially the monstrosity of a super shotgun in Quake 2.
Oh yeah... forgot about those glorious moments with the super shootie in CTF... especially with the time accelerator power up or the quad damage :D

My fav gun has to be the M1 Grand from the Call of Duty series. I just love it.
I can't believe the Portal and Grav guns are winning. Destruction is power! A BFG or Redeemer can kill you no questions asked. And if you say you can make a portal to divert the redeemer think again. Remote detonation can happen before it hits a portal, not too mention the portal would need to be on the ground or wall while the redeemer flys and doesn't have to hit anything to go off. Redeemer FTW!
Just because the portal/gravity guns can't kill as many people doesn't mean they suck, they're more fun. Also, I get sick of having my redeemer shot down. That happens way to often, man.

And you forgot the Quake 1 Thunderbolt... What's more funny than electrocuting your opponent? ( and more funny if some moron fires it while under water :D )
HL fanboyism basically equates to recognizing and appreciating a fantastic game when you see it. That applies to Valve games in general.
