I find all this fun, but I have no intention of making or playing games as a profession. I'm currently going to school in computer engineering, though. It would be cool to work for the next nVidia or something imo.
I'd love a job but if i'm going them i'm going with my team, set up as our own company (i'll probs get flamed to death for saying that but i wouldn't say it unless i'd done my research and i wont be for a while yet)
Actually I'd love to set up my own company too. Though I know it should be tough, I've faced many tough challenges before, and maybe one day this might be another one of them.
I would really, really love to work in the games industry. I'm going to uni next year, and study computer science, specializing in programming. But, if there's a chance of studying in a university-for-games-type of uni, I'd love to go there, instead.
I've read that those who graduate from DigiPen get AT LEAST 2 job offerings when they finish their majors.
I like playing video games, but the thought of basing my life on them disturbs me.
Maybe 4 years ago I would have wanted nothing else, but there are more important things for me now.
I'm with Danielz, when I was younger, around 14 I wanted to work in games industry but now I have no interest in doing so but since then I've taken up mapping which is all very nice and all but to do it as a profession, no thanks, I'll stick with construction industry, much more interesting in my opinion as a profession (Mechanical design engineer).
:P iv just got a job at epic games its realy realy hard to get into the games industry yet one u got the qualifications there are alot of places i had a choice between atari activision EA and epic games
I'm seriously thinking about working in the game-industry.
But not as a coder/designer/etc, but as a advisor. I'm studying History at the university, and I'm planning of taking some friends into a bussiness when we're finished. We'll advise major game (and movie) companies on their historical elements of games. You wouldn't believe how many times I've seen the smallest, dumbest or funniest historical errors in games and movies.
Sure you can look it up on Wikipedia, and sure you can hire some old war-veteran (have to admit Brothers in Arms' made a good move there; assures authenticy), but what's better than having a team of university-graduates helping you?
what's better than having a team of university-graduates helping you? Not caring about accuracy and still making lots of money. The harsh truth is that unless you can answer that question, you won't have much business.
I would love to go into gaming full time but im currently in school and going to collage to learn a plumbing course but gaming would be fun but its really a fantasy then a serious job.
We were part of a startup company, and I loved it. It wasn't easy by a long shot and we fell pretty bad. Would I go back if they wanted to give it another shot? Yes. As for starting a company of my own, well thats always in the works. I have partners who are still giving it a shot, and I help where I can and will join up when we can make enough to pay the bills, as far as joining a major company is concerned, well I have to love what they produce, because for me Game Design is about passion and if I am not passionate about what they are doing, how can I be passionate about what I need to do for them?
hell yea!!!, im hoping to be a concept artist, im currently working on a project with a group of friends, called valency, iv got a lot of work that could be submitted if u want?.
Why do so many people seem to think this is a recruitment thread? The image of big-name studio executives looking for new hires in the comments thread of a moddb poll is so ludicrous it's funny
If I did want to get a job in the games industry, it would have to be something where I could write the storylines for games, or maybe design levels if that wasn't an option.
yes, it's been my dream to make soundtracks for videogames
Yes, want to hire me? ;P
I have a full time job in the games industry and I love it... thanks Mod DB!!!
Oh and Mod DB is actually hiring an editor in chief

Sweet. I plan on getting a job as a game designer or concept artist.
I'm currently in talks with Acony Games in Germany.

Working in the game industry would be cool.
At least as long as I'm able to stay away from EA. :P
Valve would rock, but tey're in the states... :(
you should add "I'm to young (or unable) to work"
I already have a job in the games industry :D
Hooray for the 16 who work in games.
That's actually a much higher percentage than I expected
Yeah I'm going to school for that particular profession...so it's a hyes for me.
Whoops...okay hyes means hell yes for short lol :D
Im always looking for a job. :P

Digipen is brutally overrrated.
I want to be a game or mod tester

I'm currently in college majoring in Game Art and Animation, so yes, I'm looking for a job in the industry.
I want a job as a game designer but i'm still in high school right now.

Just give me another semester to graduate!
When I grow up, its off to a company for me. Then, whent they least expect it, i will make a bestseller title in a seperate company.

Now, I only hope we'll all graduate :P

I'm currently employed in the industry as an animator.
I'm currently in the industry as a QA. :D This just happened recently.

i am a game tester, but i want a better paying job in the game industry. Texture artist and 3d modeler here, anyone interested?

i'll always keep my 'modtivity' to a hobby level. I plan to excel in a totally different unrelated career
I sure as hell would like to try being a tester for a while, I'm not sure that I would enjoy playing games THAT much. But then again who knows?
No.

I allready hava job on a TV station so i realy dont need one in gaming industry. :)
Spent a few years learning the rope thru modding...now in the biz at Bioware... just wrapped up the audio for Mass Effect.
