An update on TIW-Ultimate, stating out the new course of action.

Posted by on

Hello everyone,

yes, it has been quite a while since my last encounter with TWC and my project The Italian Wars - Ultimate.
Sadly, I have not been able to carry on with the mod as planed and so there was no progress at all over the last year/months.

Since lately, I was bombarded with messages asking if the project will be continued/finished etc. ... well...
I won't announce any comeback, simply because my time is still very limited.
Nevertheless, I'll have a look a the mod and check what tasks are still pending and what ideas may be expandable.
This 'review' done, I'll consider either continuing on TIW or releasing it in its current state to the public,
so that maybe someone else carry on or not

In any case, thank you all for your true commitment, I was very moved!

Best regards,
Neadal

Glad for the update Neadal.
Time is the most valuable and rare commodity of a modder, hehe, so understand the situation.
Appriciate to hear you'll evaluate the situation and material though, to enable other to continue on or to roll on once more yourself :)

It doesn't matter you not working through the year before summer not even arriving yet. That's the best time to work on it i think, and something tells me you will change your mind:)
Currently in my opinion the mod doesn't feel 'finished' because of the missing unit portraits, and missing text files/descriptions of the latest factions such as Genoa, Ferrara etc..
If those were fixed, I really think the mod would feel finished. If things are really bad and you are ready to abandon the mod it's fine, but before you do I would really recommend finishing those things with the units because it feels you were so close and kinda left something in the middle. And you can forget everything else you were planning for the mod.You can do a last patch:)

Thank's for sharing your thoughts!
Well, as things stand, I am about to finish the Condotta-Script and we are most likely to start play testing the script in a couple of weeks. As for the newly added factions, those are already completely implemented, except for their faction specific events/scripts. Probably, I'll release a pre-version without the events and afterwards update the mod step by step with the missing faction specific events. Stay tuned! ;)

hmm...sorry I don't know what the scripts are because I'm not a modder. Does this have to do with the thing I mentioned?

Sorry, my fault! I was referring to this post here on TWC: Twcenter.net

It's just one of the new planned features :)

Ah ok thanks, still though the stuff mentioned are all new features. The game in it's current state is great if one were to abandon it, except for the fact that new faction such as Genoa, Ferrara and Mantua have no unit card art, sometimes no description, and at one point even came across a unit that had no name..so you couldn't even tell what it...was. I still don't know if it's infantry or cav unit. All i tried to explain from the start is that if these things were fixed, and perhaps making the Hafsids also properly playable the game in it's current state would be fine.

Ah ok neadal you should have said so from the start, well done, I really wanna try genoa again on your next release since I'm quite fond of that nation, good luck.

Also I just remembered since we are talking. If you are still interested in hearing opinions about what people might want as a feature on this mod, I actually did have something a very long time now in mind, that I would like to have seen in the mod.
In the vanilla every time you upgrade a units armor they change appearance, and upgrades are visible on the battle map. This mod I noticed be it bronze, silver, or gold shield armor the units have no visual change on the battle map. Can this be fixed by any chance?

Well, yeah.. it is a kind of manpower thing you see.
For each new armour update you would need to create new models to have an actual change in their appearance on the battlefield.
Back then, when we created the new models we hadn't had the patience and manpower to create new models for each armour update. It was simply to much work. They may be added one day, but I fear they are not a priority at the moment. :)
