This is my stuff to do list, more or less. Its shows most of the major features I have planned for the game before it is finished. The next release will feature the ability to carry wounded characters, which opens up the way for future features, like imprisonment, and changes to the medical system.

STUFF THATS HIGH ON MY LIST

  • Beds will be functional. Sleeping will speed up healing rate, but you will need to pay for the use of a bed in town.
  • You will need to carry badly wounded characters to safety.
  • You will be able to buy your own building. To start with, you will be able to have your own beds to heal up in, and storage for equipment.
  • Imprisonment. This means characters, including your own, can be captured and imprisoned by enemy factions, by police, and caught by slavers. So you could wake up and scrape your squad together after losing a fight and find you have a guy missing, and you will have to go rescue him.
  • You can gear out your buildings for research and crafting. The higher level equipment in the game now will no longer be available in shops, and you will have to craft it.
  • Later on you will be able to use your owned buildings to open a shop, or a hospital.
  • Cannibals. They like to capture people to use as a fresh food supply. Don't fall asleep in the desert without someone on watch.

Bandaging won't be enough to get a character on their feet anymore (only a certain percentage of the bandaging will get them up, and thats based on medic skill).

PLANNED FEATURES

This is a more generalised list just to show you what is planned for the game overall (in no particular order):

  • Lots more factions and complexity to the world, improvements to the AI
  • Nice big research tree and crafting system, with the addition of mining and paying for resources.
  • Ability to join factions and do dynamic missions for them. AI factions will also give missions to other factions and NPCs, not just you.
  • Increased multi-threading. Will mean that I can have a ridiculous amount of active characters at once, and there will be huge armies running around.
  • You will be able to build buildings out in the desert, and start your own outpost or fortress, possibly towns.
  • Building and town siege warfare.
  • The world map will be a lot bigger. Towns will be procedurally generated, meaning I can fill the whole world single-handed and it will be different every time you start a new game.
  • Mining and farming.
  • Ranged combat. Crossbows and harpoon turrets.
  • Unarmed combat
  • Thief skills, stealing, sneaking, escaping from jail.
  • Survival elements, you will need a supply of food and water, and need shelter to survive storms. Endurance and fitness will factor in to combat.
  • Limb amputation, and robotic replacements
  • Blood sprays, splats, lots of blood
  • More animations to represent impact, injuries, damage and exhaustion.
  • Dialog system that will be linked into the AI. Characters will say things at times based on their intentions, motivations, opinions and events.
  • More races are planned, other than just humans.
  • Doors to lock up your buildings, town gates to keep the bandits out.
  • Wildlife, creatures, monsters, herds.

STUFF THAT WILL GET DONE WHEN I HAVE THE MONEY TO HIRE SOMEONE FOR IT

This is not because I'm being lazy, just that these features are easy to separate from the main code, so are ideal to outsource and save me some time:

  • Dynamic shadows
  • Foliage, rocks, grass, stuff to fill out the map and make it actually interesting to travel.
  • Deferred lighting: Means that I can have a nearly unlimited number of lights in the scene, and can introduce the day-night cycle
  • Pathfinding overhaul. This will also get rid of those long Loading messages.
  • More armour, clothing, hair styles, more buildings and variety in all the artwork.
  • Audio and sound effects.

I cetainly hope not, and not likely.

Firearms are what ruined the Mount and blade series, and mounts wouldn't work very well in this game.

i agree with fallmier on the firearms since they would be 1 hit kills (cause of the realizum of the game) and a group of them would make the game too easy (while bows wouldn't exactly kill you on spot unless you get a lucky shot) but the mount would be good for this game cause of the size the map is suppose to be (but whether or not you be able to fight on top of one is still a question).

Judging by the level of realism he has shown in even this early stage of development, I would say that it seems likely that, if mounts were to be introduced, you would be able to fight atop a mount and, just like M&B, speed would likely become a force multiplier for damage calculations. More than that, seeing how he thinks of new features and what options they open up for even MORE features, I would say that the addition of horses/mounts would also mean carts and other means of carrying goods and supplies.
Man, the potential for this game is just so massive. Everyone here should fund this game. It's not much money at all.

gr8 work as always man. One thing on my mind. Handeling like 10 or 20 people is easy. Handeling a few hundred (as is planned) is a bit hard. Can you make like a grouping feature. Like create a squad and then its easier to keep track of. Like pool all the images into a single image on the screen and if there is a problem with that perticular squad then an indication on the squad image is shown. However gr8 work so far. I bought the game in like an hour after hearing about it. Keep up the good work

Yeah, later on there will be squad grouping, and any other ways I can come up with to make large group management easier.

How long has this game been in development? I bought it as soon as I saw it on GamersGate lol. and everything was done entirely using Ogre? No 3rd party 3d software used etc? I'm a fairly new 3d developer, that's why I'm curious. Thanks and you are a very impressive!

can't wait for this game to crossbows or just plain bow since they are what make any strategey game great
and then you can have funner fights on walls

but i have question: since there are walls in the game and there could be ranged weapons incorperated (big word) how will the seigeing force get to the people raining down on them other than running right through the gate adn up the stairs?

They will have to bust down the gates. Much later I would like to add the ability for npcs to climb the walls, but we will see.

cool whatching people climb up the walls (esecially if the wall the are climbing was on top of a clift that they have to climb up first) will be amazing, but now i have another question (yes i have a lot of them :) ) since they would be climbing up a wall would the climbers have a chance to get shot or fall off the wall and would natural terrain affect this (like the cliff and you really don't have ot answer this if you don't, i'm just trying see how impenitable a fortress can be)

I've got an additional question to this:
Fall damage?
If you get shot and fall off a rope at the height of 1m it's nothing.. But some of those walls and cliffs are pretty high ;)

wait since this is a wastland (or desert they are preety much the same) how about we would use camels since they are best transporttion in deserts. we could use other mounts of course but the camel could like move faster for go longer than the other mounts

by races do you mean like orcs and elves or do you mean species like martians and other aliens?
also could you just get surgery and get robotic limbs even without getting your limb cut off in battle

This may have been suggested but a compass would work wonders for city to city travel.
