Post news Report RSS Turning mod into Europe?

News about development and one big question to players.

Posted by on

Greetings, dear players. Lately The Parabellum mod community has been growing more and more, to the point we have reached a twenty thousand downloads of 1.2 version.

I am aware of the numerous bugs and crashes the modification is still affected by, and I do my best to fix everything, as now I know Warband programming better than when started developing and now I able to optimize the mod code.

As you can know, developing is now proceeding at a slower pace, mostly because I helping R&B mod developer. Moreover, I'm focusing on polishing the code that I've already implemented in game instead of adding new raw features. 1.3 changelog will be out very soon.

Recently some testers made a one suggestion. As you can know, Parabellum mod is a mod that affects real historian events, and one big problem of mod realism is Calradian setting. So why not to turn mod into Europe map? I almost started doing it, but I don't know players' wantings. Don't worry about lot of work that I will need to do, if I will do it, I will create a historically accurate environment for you to enjoy at its fullest. The factions would be UK, USA, France, Italy, Germany, Austro-Hungary, Russia and Ottoman Empire.

So, do you wish the modification to be set in Carladia or in the real world? I will need the help of historians who could provide names and information to make the mod as accurate as possible. Please, give us feedback, and we will respond accordingly.

Please set the game in the real world. It is a very good mod, but I believe that it loses something when you remove it from it's historical context. Being able to recreate the actual battles and campaign scenarios of the war could only make the mod better.

And I may possibly be able to help you with accuracy. Although I am not a historian, I am studying history at University. But there is so much easily accessible information out there that it shouldn't be too difficult anyway.

Aye. Definitely Agreeable (PERIOD).

And also make them Jerry's look Black in their Underdaks.
Cause they barely even look like a wally with them beards hanging 'round.

No, because Battlefield 1 is littered with historical inaccuracies. These inaccuracies work for Parabellum because Calradia is a FICTIONAL world BASED on ours, and so the "inaccuracies" aren't. But if the mod becomes set in real-world Europe, then the inaccuracies are ******* blatant and that can seriously ruin the fun.
But oh, I forgot everyone LOVES BF1.

ok but this isn't battlefield 1, and BF1 is littered with inaccuracies due to no one would want to sit in a trench for hours upon end. And the weapons are there because they know no one would want to use just bolt actions constantly.

Filthy ******* casual. If I wanted to play WWII with WWI reskins/items I'd find a WWI mod for BF 1942, a MUCH better BF game than the slop you Plebeians slurp up.

You find that minor inaccuracies "ruin the fun", but not removing the war from its historical context and thereby removing it from most of its meaning and history?
I am sorry but that doesn't seem to make much sense.

It seems most people here agree that a bunch of little inaccuracies are preferable.

I explained it. Those inaccuracies are ignorable because Calradia don't real fam. In the native Warband game the Nords have old-fashioned (for the time; 1257) armor, but who cares because Calradia is a fictional world and anything goes. But if Warband was set in Europe during the High Middle Ages and the Nordic faction had Viking-age items, well it would kinda get in one's face.
And anyway, someone already made a sub-mod for this:

I for one would love to see this mod brought into the real world. I've always had sort of a fascination with World War I and think it would be amazing to be able to play it out on the battlefields of Europe in Mount and Blade.

If the mod is set in reality maybe in future we could see a WW2 submod? Or maybe in the far future we could see a system similar to Nova Aetas where time progresses from WW1 to WW2...

Or the mod starts at 1914 and later uniforms and weapons develop into 1916 and 1918 versions of them.

Seems like it'd take a long time to do, in the game, i mean. Even three years in-game is a really long time's worth of playing.

Europe and Africa, because this war was in Africa, and in Asia too, but I think Europe and North Africa is enough.

An East Africa-addon would be just what I'm longing for a long time... to trick the enemy like the old "lion of africa" Lettow-Vorbeck would be a great experience. :)

I would like a real world map too but if you do it this way, there would be gaps between the countries you are going to include, especially on the Balkans and on the Iberian peninsula.

But you have the February revolution and the Tsar abdicating... You can make the Provisional government to be in power and the communists and the monarchists to struggle for power. That would be interesting.

Are you planning on possibly adding new factions in the future? I think the Arab tribes, Irish rebels, Finnish White Forces, Persia, Greece, Spain, Portugal and Scandinavia could spice things up in an interesting way.

Also another question, are you planning to use the map of Europe or something similar to the 16th Century War where the entire whole world is playable?

I prfer to use real world countries, with real characters, etc, but with the SAME MAP, that would fit. The dev already said that it will extend to the black sea, tough it would be the best to also have north afrika. If you want historical accuracy, i think, as The_Hussar said, there will be gaps between the counries, so it should be in some kind of alternate history, or make those countries (like sitzerland, spain, etc) neutral.

in addition to what people said, IMO an ideal super cool scenario is if this mod eventually gets all the major events from 1799 (napoleon uprising + french war with austria + french revolution still sort of goes on) to 1945 (japan surrenders unconditionally in WW2). mainly napoleon and Bismarck wars, along with WW2. probably by shifting villages and towns in the start map depending on the date the player chooses, as well as starting technology. picking 1800 will allow even the slowest of players to take their time preparing a faction for world war I to have an impact on the clash of alliances, while picking world war I as a start would force them to play as a lowly peasant and rise up the ranks quickly if they want to get a piece of the action.

certain units would be locked until the corresponding event triggers, or maybe even each faction could have a research that speeds up with time so none would be too far behind, and gives them better weapons and other tech (POP already has a custom units mechanic so who knows what's possible).

maybe also events like economic depression of 1930's could have an actual effect on the world, like making fiefs give significantly less money. when world war triggers probably all factions would pick their historical sides, as there is no faction relationships system to allow for dynamic siding.

also i'll admit that it makes more sense to just go from world war I to II, but i'm personally a fan of the entire period 1800-1945 and after reading a history book about those periods that explains the connection between them they are inseparable in my mind.
