Welcome Back, Commanders! Thanks so much for your continued support through the Top 100 MOTY Voting phase. If you haven't already cast your vote (If you voted in the last phase you need to vote again in this phase now we are in the Top 100 Thanks). Let us try for the Top Upcoming Mod of 2017! We appreciate your continued support and dedicated to bringing you the best.

This update we have something a little different to show you our Ion Storm environment! This is one kind of Ion Storm that can occur in Tiberian Sun Rising. The Ion Storm we are showing you here is a map-wide Ion Storm that is constantly waging with no breaks. Note there are other types/varieties of Ion Storms we will be showing you in upcoming updates this is just one of them. Now behold the fury of the Ion Storm itself! These entire map Ion Storms are furious preventing the use of Aircraft or Hover units entirely on these map types. They have a distinct visual that we put quite a bit of work into getting a distinct and furious look for these map types which are among some of the most hostile map types in Tiberian Sun Rising.

Ion Storms

Raging Ion Storm

Commander, the effects of Tiberium on the planets climate and ecosystem continue at a more rapid pace than ever. Tiberium is changing this planet to what ends is still unknown but the effects on the world environment area clear. Tiberium Crystals and Tiberium Veins are just the beginning of it Ion Storms are s relatively new threat and pose a great threat to our Airforce. Ion Storms are highly charged electrical storms and they strike lightning frequently any Aircraft daring to fly through a storm is likely to be struck down, In the case of smaller storms we advise you to fly around them and avoid them. Of course, that is not always possible the variety of Ion Storm we are focusing on in today's briefing Commander are the most dangerous ones yet the Class 5 Ion Storm.

Ion Storm

DesolateDeserted

This variety of Ion Storm is the strongest and most dangerous we've seen yet the airspace in the entire region is heavily charged with electrical energy. These Storms last extremely long periods you can wage an entire Skirmish through one of these storms. This changes our tactics and deployments considerably for both GDI and Nod. For the GDI it means we can't send you Dropship reinforcements, we can't authorise the use of ORCA Fighters or Bombers and the Hover MLRS cannot function in Ion Storms without its mobility its useless to you Commander. This puts us on a strong reliance on our ground forces Infantry and vehicles the Wolverine and Titan perform well in these environments and the suits protect their pilots from the extreme conditions. Infantry on foot are vulnerable to lightning strikes and we recommend transporting in Amphibious APC's until reaching their target. If you want to hit Nod where it hurts you can also unleash the big guns with the Mammoth Mk2 or the Disruptors which can deliver a devastating blow to Nod.

Lightning Strikes

Storming

Also be noted we are still researching the effects of Ion Storms it has been known for Ion Storms to effect GDI and Nod Technologies in unexpected ways. So some of your most advanced technologies in the field may not be as effective or function as well within a Class 5 Ion Storm. Of course, this hopefully means Nod will have some difficulty with their Stealth Generators but we're still collecting intel, whatever you discover in the field be sure to share it with GDI Command onboard the Philadelphia.

sgtmyers88 Thankyou, but that said I think EA had some decent environments and some interesting ideas for Tiberium it's just quite different from what we imagined following Tiberian Sun and the world Westwood setup. But yeah this is the kind of Ion Storm we wanna see :) thanks for the feedback.

Thanks, necron15 we took a lot of inspiration from how they were depicted in-game and in cutscenes. The yellow stands out visually something a bit more distinct but also quite true to Tiberian Suns yellowish Ion Storms ingame we then used C&C3s; engine to dial up the graphics and here we are :).

It does provoke the same idea that something drastically wrong is occurring in the area, that ion storms in Tiberium Suns did.

It's the year 2030 your the Commander, you're hooked into a Satellite Uplink via Mixed Reality and Eva/CABAL are generating overlays on your HUD to identify friend from foe.

The rings will be going through some more iterations and later hopefully it'll be clearer what we're shooting for with them. It's on our list there are higher priority tasks in the meantime, however.

Will Banshees get powers from the storms like the Scrin Stormriders?

ApornasPlanet from the FMVs it does seem the Banshees might fly during Ion Storms as they appeared to be attacking the Kodiak during one. It
is something we've been discussing on the team.

We are still locking down the ruleset for mapwide Ion Storm maps, at the moment I've been playing these maps with all Hover Units and Aircraft disabled (you can't even build them). It changes the game in a pretty significant way... Next, I am going to try enabling Banshees for Nod to see how this tips the balance of power. Will be treading carefully here finding the right balance of fun and different gameplay this map type offers.

Well it would be really cool (because of lore reasons) but I understand the balancing issues.

But maybe that would introduce an interesting dynamic to Ion storms. If both GDI and Nod are hampered by the storms then Ion storms would just be an uneventful slowdown of the game.

But if one side actually gets stronger and benefits from the storm that changes the dynamics of the game for a short period. So if you have GDI vs Nod and a storm occurs then GDI just really need to be all out defence untill the clears while Nod gets an opportunity to attack. A dynamic like that would probably also encourage GDI players to build all those sweet base defences.

So Ion storm = Nod attack and GDI defend?

If stranded hover mrls could retain anti-air capabilities during storms that might work.

Man, there is something sinister about the yellowish glow of that Ion Storm. This is what makes the canon of Tiberian Sun great. And I have to say, the visual effects not only look great but they also evoke a feeling of certain distress; this is good as it lets us feel what the troops on the ground would go through under this dangerous storm.
