Version 1.4s goal was to make character selection options more interesting, and on presenting a wider variety of playstyles in Through.
Download v1.4
To accomplish those goals, I added Race selection to Through. Previously, there were 10 classes available. Now there are 5 classes and 5 races that can be played in any combination, leading to 25 possible characters to play. Some overlap previous ones (the feeder and giant have become races), some are completely new (the planar being and the archer are totally new). Any class or race that did exist previously has been reworked and rebalanced to make them both more accessible and more interesting to play (the Monk class, for instance, plays entirely differently than in previous versions).
Next week I intend to begin adding strategy guides to a specific race-class combos I like. If you have a build that can successfully get through the game on Normal or higher difficulty, post about it in the comments so I can check it out.
The next patch I'm working on is going to be a very substantial content update, but it's going to take a lot of time. The goal is to add an entirely new dungeon, complete with new monsters, tilesets and music. I also want to add more classes and races. But, unsurprisingly, that much content doesn't come easy or quickly, so expect around 2 months break before the next version arrives.
I forgot about this game. I'm going to have to start playing it again.
Nice, this update is actually spot on!
I really thought there were too many uninteresting races and not enough character customization possible, a strange paradox that you seem to have solved in a great way with this patch.
Keep up the good work!
Not bad. Great work. :)
1.4 doesnot work for me
Played several times, at took me five tries to get through the tutorial ;)
After having a lot of Dwarf Fortress-esque fun, I finally managed to finish normal with Human Monk, it was pretty easy towards the end. Elven Witch and Human Berserker also worked pretty well, but both died to my general stupidity (ever tried outrunning Minotaurs in a long narrow corridor?)
