Introducing new Erebor designs, blending the movie trilogies!

Dwarves of Erebor

Greetings, Companions of Edain!

First up our thanks goes to all of you who voted for us in this years Mod of the Year Awards. With your help we have reached the Top100 for the sixth consecutive time! Now let's continue with another quite regularly requested remake.

Today we present to you the new Erebor Soldiers of Edain!

Dwarves of Erebor

A lot of feedback to the old Erebor dwarves stated, that they looked to much like Gimli Clones. A resemblance to Gimli was actually our intention, since our Erebor is thematically settled during the War of the Ring, and Gimli is the only design pattern for that from the LotR movies. Now with new material from the Hobbit movie, we decided to mix those up together with our original ideas. The Soldiers will begin with sturdy yet flexible leather jerkins and hauberks, and change to their iconic plate with the Heavy Armor upgrade. Guardians can additionally be upgraded with Warmasks, which will decrease the armor of nearby foes.

Dwarves of Erebor

But our goal with these designs was also to portray an evolution of the dwarven gear. The Soldiers from the Hobbit movie are from the time of Thrórs reign under the Mountain. A lot of time passed in Middle-earth from then till the War of the Ring. Erebor was literally repopulated from the ground up during those eras. Keeping the exact Soldier design from the past seemed like ignoring the historic context. That is why our regular soldiers intentionally differ in key details from them. For examples their regular helmets are visorless, which was also a primary design decision in the LotR movies.

Dwarves of Erebor

To round up their new appearance, Erebors new Gameplay will be focused on attack. Their defence will be slightly weaker than that of the Iron Hills, but in return they will have superior offence and means to break defences. Guardians will be able to smash through the enemies armor. Pikesman can temporary use their polehammers for striking, thus serve as backup melee fighters. The Axethrowers will stay as Erebors ranged unit, as the most lethal of all three ranged types.

Those are some of the ideas and thoughts that went into this redesign. Can you find all the other little references? Stay tuned for many more Renders and Updates in the following days!

And if you liked this update, as always we'd be honored if you would consider giving us your vote for Mod of the Year 2015! Keep in mind that votes by registered accounts count a lot more.

I love the spears, they look like from the movies but with a polehammer attached to them. And their shields look awesome, they are a true phalanx now!

Those dwarves looks fantastic. Have you maybe thought about to use also the design from the game "war in the North"? I mean the dwarves of Nordingbad. Their style we never saw in the movies (and never heard of that realm).

Oh my! beautiful design, love it! also love the change to the war mask with the decreasing of the armor.
rly nice changes to the pike men, cant wait to combine them with armor decreasing soldiers and dubble axe vets.
Also fantastic "in the memmory of thorin oakenshield" shield to the pike men :)

have you done any progress with this guy?:
Moddb.com

think that is a fantastic look for dains son. but do you think the dwarves of Erabor or IH will get more heroes, sins they are outnumbered by the other, at least good factions? and maybe a mount or two EL and Erabor? sins they only have old dains wagon?
Now after the hobbit all thorin, fili, kili, dwalin can have goats even balin can get the wagon from old dain (sins his goat riding days are over), and maybe old dain can have a mount, Thorin III prob also had goats when he was patrolling the IH in peace times :)

Adamin. Great skins for Erebor dwarves! Will there be any changing of Ered Luin dwarves? They have the best look, please don't change them. Another thing. I wrote comment on image of Iron hills goat ridders about idea for second palantir for some heroes (leaders mostly, Saruman, king Dain, Aragorn, Thorin, Sauron, and so on). One palantir has passive spells and the other has active. This is used in Morguls great Botta mod. It leaves room for more active spells, and you don't have to use both palantir, mainly beacuse of confusion. For instance Erebor Dain has passive spells "Red axe" which gives more damages to Goblins, "Hero of Azanulbizar" which gives expirience to heroes and "King of the dwarves" which gives it to units. Spells don't have to be these, since they are used in Botta mod, but it can give you ideas. It leaves room for more spells, like mounts, and other stuff. Hope to hear your opinion Adamin. :)

Instead of a whole palantir, which needs a toggle button, there could just a be one passive ability in most cases including all of the others and being at the place of the toggle button.
Also there won't be abilities dealing extra damage only against special factions.

Yes there will be quite a few changes to Ered Luin, sorry lad. But their new look will also be pretty cool. ;)

Yes, they are great, but Man of Carn dum I love the most. :D . Okay, no worries. Speaking of Ered Luin, is there any chance of adding mount for some heroes of that faction? :D .Can't wait to see new Ered Luin design.

Yes, I know, which is why he got rid of the battle stance. And why there was only few heroes with two palantirs, mostly main characters of factions, leaders of factions. But I also agree with your arguments, especialy if you don't plan to add more than one passive spell, and damage against specific units. I'm just giving ideas. :) . Mainly because mounts. His Witch king has a mount button in passive spell palantir. Easy to manage.

The dwarven updates are amazing, congratulations, but have you considered putting the goats war wagon with the double repeating crossbow and the arrow shredder ballista?
This also inducted me to propose you a thing: could every dwarven kingdom have different war machines?
And the dwarven horn could be replaced by: Baruk Khazad, Khazad Ai Menu!!! from the movie

I wish that Erebor Heroes suppose to be "Thror, Thrain, Thorin the Young prince" is better for Erebor...I mean it was the golden age of that time like Golden age of human is like Numenor->Arnor. I just write my Idea on the review so anyone read it and give some advise.Old Dain and Thorin the 3rd is not bad...but feel little empty.
Also Erebor's alternative outpost base must be the Dale. Hero suppose to be the 'Girion' That what I think haha

its good, but have you considered to make them more like in the movie (hobbit an unexpected journey, in the start of the movie) they are more grey, and their armour is more heavy

That is good job you made, but those hammers are way too big. Real warhammers look more like this.
Darkknightarmoury.com
That is far more deadlier. Those that you modelled is far too heavy to be usable as any weapon.
Looks like you just need to resize the hammer part of it, rest looks just fine. And considering you are forced to use models that are bit low quality for modern day, i guess it might look fine in-game.
Since every weapon Tolkien created is meant to be practical and realistic, i think it would be good to follow that and not go for overkill. Even world`s strongest man would not benefit from that large hammer, it would just tire them more.
