Post news Report RSS The idiot proof way of installing this mod.

Nobody can possibly complain about not being able to install it properly now...

The absolute fool-proof way of installing this mod:

Download the mod. It comes in an archive that you can open with several programs, most common one being winrar. Open the archive, and extract the folder EAW-Re.

Somewhere on your computer there is a folder that holds all the Forces of corruption files, named "Star Wars Empire at War Forces of Corruption" Find it.

If you installed mods before, then there'll already be an extra folder inside the FoC directory called Mods, if not, create it. Drop EAW-Re in that Mods folder.
So it'll look like Star Wars Empire at War Forces of Corruption/Mods/EAW-Re

Open the EAW-Re folder. Inside is a shortcut which works if you installed the mod to C:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\Star Wars Empire at War Forces of Corruption\Mods\EAW-Re If it doesn't work, right click the shortcut, go to properties, and edit both target paths to where ever you have your game installed. Don't forget to keep the modpath otherwise it'll just start the regular game.

All steam related comments will be removed, read you lazy pricks.

Got a problem with AI? Try a reinstall of the game. AI works fine with a clean FoC and has been tested by me personally. Still doesn't work? Figure out what is causing the issue, don't ask me, I've got no clue what you did to your game.

I still don't get it.... JUST KIDDING. I have always found this game is one of the easiest games when it comes to installing mods. Watch someone still find a way to not do it right though...

well people forget and for some people like me it just doesn't ******* work I blame Steam. If I never lost my cd copy I wouldn't have to deal with this ****.

I've tried to go both ways following the instructions to the letter and i'm still the biggest idiot for not figuring it out, and i'm a moron for buying the steam version thinking it'll be easier.

i think it has something to do with the 4gb patch. i tried using that and it gave me an 'Error 51'. and when i revalidated my gamecache it removed the patched launcers and brought the normal ones back.

You know,EAW is about 10 years old now.Modding started pretty much right after the release.

I can't believe people are dumb enough to STILL TO THIS DAY not know how to install the freaking mods.

Idiot proof you say? Well challenge accepted then :P

But actually, how does one not know how to install mods for EAW? It's not even a difficult game to mod. You just drop everything into a single folder called mods and then you just need to edit a shortcut. Compared to say The Witcher 3 or Skyrim (without mod organizers) modding where the location changes depending on the mod that's being installed I'd say that dropping stuff into a single location and then just setting up a shortcut is incredibly straightforward.

The stupidity of people that use this website should never be underestimated though. There are some impressive displays of silliness to be found if you start looking.
I do agree that the modding for Empire at War is easy and convenient with 95% of mods and this explanation almost is overkill already.

"Coming 6th of June 2015" It's still the 5th where I am and I suspect it will be the 5th for a while longer for the mod author. Unless someone has a time machine, wait until tomorrow.

If anything, he lives in the Netherlands so he has the same time as me, and as such it's already the 6th for him. Then again, that comment was posted when it was the 5th for him.

I may not have looked closely at the time when writing that xP. It was like 10 minutes to midnight, buuuut I had already written it and journalistic integrity demanded I left my statement as it was.

Journalistic integrity demands you get your facts straight and correct your already published false information. I don't think you understand how journalistic integrity works ;)

As of this moment half the units don't have descriptions, I'm taking my time to come up with fancy descriptions, which takes a lot longer than just putting "Medium cruiser" into every description. I'll upload the mod once I'm done.

Reply Good karma+4 votes
Boda
Boda

xD I would so make **** up for those descriptions...
For example:

:insert ship class name here: is a small/medium/heavy cruiser, good for shooting down other small/medium/heavy cruisers and smaller. Also good for when you want to escape the city and go cruising for a weekend. (Empire only) Comes with free cookies! It is our way of saying "Thanks! ..for joining the Dark Side".

Warning: Do not leave children near the object without parental supervision due to risk of being blown to smithereens.

I'm attempting to create some interactivity between the unit descriptions, if that makes sense. You'll see it when the mod is released.

I'm sorry people, but I'm postponing the release by 1 day because of a heatwave that's hit a couple of days back which prevented me from making some final yet crucial ajustments, the most significant of which are finishing the units descriptions. Unwilling to rush my work, the beta will release on the seventh. I'd have liked for it to be different, but the weather hasn't been kind in the Netherlands over the past few days.

Is there anywhere that you know of where your ship models are pre-programmed? I would love them in my game and I know how to port them, but sadly I have no idea how to code them.

You said that it is a modder's resource, that there were only the textures and models. What did you mean by modder's resource if all I have to do is put their files into the correct places?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

It's just what it says on the tin. A resource for modders. If they want that ship, they can use these models and textures. Ofcourse they have to code everything in themselves.

Reply Good karma+2 votes

Which is why I asked if you know of anywhere other than in your mod where those files are available with everything already coded.

Well there's my mod. Then there's the individual downloads themselves, those don't contain code ofcourse.

I had no trouble installing the mod. In fact I find it brilliant! absolutely the best thing Ive ever seen so cheers. However, I am unsure how to apply your patch. Do I split the patch in its related folders or do I just stick it in data. No idea. Please help.

So... am I guessing right, that the steam-version of this game isn't supported? Because as much as I read through all of the information about your mod here, other than the comment in this description the steam-version wasn't even noted once.

Maybe I´m just dumb but I installed the mod, reinstalled the game and I still got problems with the A.I., the mod itself is working fine but the A.I. is just standing there and for example in the space battle it doesn´t upgrade the base, produce fighters or build mines, just is there doing nothing. I have nothing installed other than the normal EAW, then FOC and this mod, only exeption is a patch to run FOC on Windows 7. I don´t have the steam version, hopefully you can help me. I´ve read the instruction and did it like you wrote and I applied the patch (copied the folders in the respective folders and overwritten them)

Did the edit thing, but the file SWFOC.exe only launches the original game with the Gold edition and not Forces of Corruption.

Only way for me to launch Forces of Corruption is through steam. Any workarounds?

Thanks. :)

When I do this steam will say the game is running but the the game won't launch. After a few seconds it stops saying it's launching and just go back to normal. You know a solution
