Lately I've created a new mission which features Corellian ships and Hutt ships fighting around a Hutt mining base. The mission takes place in a large, dynamic asteroid field. The Hutt encounter mission is not likely to make it in the final version as it's not very interesting. Actually, it has been created to show Hutt and Corellian ships in action as many players wanted to see them. Additionaly, it served to set up our new dynamic asteroid field which, i hope, will be used i several other new missions (for instance, i was thinking about an Imperial mission where you have to chase the Millenium Falcon in a dangerous asteroid field).
For information, i'm using a R-41 Starchaser, which is the Corellian Medium Fighter. By the way, it's the only medium fighter in the game which has ions. Also, keep your eyes open : you may see Friendly Fire's new missile effects, Adoxa's rolling feature, Wodk4's inboard camera, large asteroids being split in small ones, and lot's of explosions.
I wonder if capitals are also going to be allowed to roll? I am guessing that feature is a game-wide implementation and not limited to specific ships?
and why wouldnt they be able to roll?
btw now i get it why getting into the asteroid field its suicide XD
It's gamewide. They just roll a lot slower.
That's some awesome asteroid-dodging!!

An interesting video, especially the second half. The asteroids are moving very fast, in my opinion it is just too much, it does not have an epic but hectic, even crazy, atmosphere. Wouldn't it be better to slow down the big asteroids in speed and rotation? There are still the little ones that are dangerous enough for the ship.
Ya. We're looking into the asteroids of Freelancer. We're going to attempt to make them larger and more detailed. This would allow us to slow things down a bit.
Now thats more like an asteroid field! Hectic!
The asteroids behave too strange for my taste. As soon as you approach them, they start to move. As if they wanted to attack you. Slow it down a bit. Make it more subtle. If you want to say so, less hectic. I know it's propably due to the engine, but imho they look kinda wierd
This was a first version, and we're working on improving it. Any feedback is appreciated, and will make the game better in the end!
