So as you may have noticed, things didn't roll out as smoothly as we'd hoped..
Saturday we put everything together, got ready to upload it, then found something was wrong...
We explained 5.0 might come without a campaign, and you guys understandably weren't happy.
As such I spent Saturday evening through to Sunday morning trying desperately to fix a campaign that had previously taken months to complete. Not a great deal of time in which to do it, but in the end we had a "workable" campaign.. alas it was always going to be somewhat incomplete and flawed for now as there simply wasn't enough time to get it to a prefect condition.
This is the reason for the problems in campaign, such as the horrid economy for example.
The custom battles aren't too bad atm, apart from the issues we already knew about, there doesn't seem to be that much popping up that is "new" to us. So that's quite promising.
The launcher, oh god what a pain in the ass this guy has been. We obviously tested internally, and it seemed to work, then we put it out and it doesn't work for some people.. great.
If you've experienced a problem with white unit cards, no sound, etc, just general stuff that is so obvious we wouldn't put out a mod with it in that state... it's 99.99% the fact the mod hasn't started properly.
Some people have turned to Mod Manager, others to manual installation for now, we almost instantly figured out the problem with the launcher and have now fixed it however. And in future when all is solved urge you to still try and use it.
Modding or indeed fixing the bugs of modding isn't an exact science sadly, most bug fixes are through intense amounts of trial and error. We get no bug reports from the game engine, we can't debug the game process and generally we have absolutely no idea what is going on inside the game to make stuff happen, it's all a terrible business. Fixing bugs in mods is like finding a piece of hay in a needle stack... while being shot at.
Maybe I should have picked Tennis as a hobby..
Right now we're currently all running around like crazy fixing the most important issues you have reported. If it breaks the game, prevents you from playing, or generally is a "big" issue, it's probably what we're all working on right now this second.
THE COMING UPDATE
We'll be releasing a 5.1 update here on Moddb, it likely won't be that big of a download so don't worry. We'll probably re-upload 5.0 for everyone downloading it anew.
What will it fix? We don't have a definitive list as we're simply fixing bugs as quickly as possible and will release the patch when we think it's ready, some point later today.
Hopefully it will fix the major issues, and what I'm seriously hoping is that it will fix the bloody launcher for as many people as possible, so that from then on when we do have a small bug fix, you can get it as and when we make them.
Just to name a few bugs we are aware of:
All mod launch/startup bugs. (No sound, white cards, messed up flags, etc)
Everyone dies in 1915 (Named the 1915 Spanish Flu by you guys.. very funny)
Maxed out tech tree's for some nations
Problems with buildings (such as ports)
Switzerland causing crashes
No Generals recruitable for some nations
Unit size problems (units being 1 man in size)
Being instantly dropped from a game
There are more, but these are the most commonly reported
