Post news RSS Techincal issues and mesh madness

Well, it's been three weeks now since the last news... there's sort of a principle: if you don't hear or read anything from us for a longer period of time, this means that we're working our asses off. It does *not* mean that another promising mod went down the drain. ;-) Indeed, we've been working nonstop

Well, it's been three weeks now since the last news... there's sort of a principle: if you don't hear or read anything from us for a longer period of time, this means that we're working our asses off. It does *not* mean that another promising mod went down the drain. ;-) Indeed, we've been working nonstop during the past few weeks, and to top it off, there have been serious technical issues with the REBORN data we sent to our new mapper Patrik. THE REBORN simply refused to work on his machine. Suspecting the GOTY edition to be responsible and having been proven wrong, we have tracked down the problem now - damaged files ("thanks" to a damaged .zip archive) and a missing .utx file were the culprit, so Patrik should be ready to continue mapping in a few days.

Meanwhile, Ian has begun to work on meshes and textures. He stated that his weapon skins are not final, but they look sweet already.

We as the "German Team" ran the gamut regarding the ongoing graphical maintenance work and have presented THE REBORN with tons of new meshes. We realized we needed some decorational meshes for the clinic sequence in the very beginning of REBORN, which is meant to be included in the demo we put on schedule for Christmas 2004. In addition, we finally created meshes for the "gadgets" which will replace the Deus Ex augmentations and were also needed for the demo. Well, this part is done. Aside from some minor first person mesh animations still left to be done, *our* part of artwork has been finalized. Ian has a lot of work to do though, but importing the stuff he will provide into the game should be a piece of cake compared to the mesh madness we already went through. ;-) Now that the coding is 99% done as well, Patrik, Björn and me will focus on the cream of the crop: mapping. This fact will make us please your eyes with new and "finalized" in-game screenshots soon, and that's what matters the most to you, isn't it? ;-) Hey, we owe you some, but the time-consuming overhaul of the visual side of THE REBORN was absolutely necessary to prevent us from boring you with premature screenies showing incomplete REBORN stuff.

As you can see, we're getting ahead, and as soon as I'm finished with the beta test of Part 3 of mighty Steve Tack's ZODIAC mod (which, that much I can tell, will rock your nuts!), I can finally switch back from my modeling software to UnrealEd and do my best to get the demo out the door for Christmas. You cannot kill what doesn't die... ;-)
