I think some safe points could be a bit more generously distributed. When I died by falling into the watermill I had to start in the gardens again at the situation where you have to shoot those three guys in the trenches. That isn't a favorite moment in games, so I quit my playing there for today.
However, level design and everything else work flawless. Guns seem to spray their bullets a little and it's a shame there's no ironsight. But I enjoyed playing it today and if I don't fall into the watermill again, I'll probably finish it next time. Nice mod!

Surely using an installer to install the mod into the Steam mods folder automatically is simpler or simpilar "system", wouldn't you agree? :)

Zomniac - it works, just make a folder called "Strider Mountain" where you unwrap the files to (in Sourcemods). Compared to Unreal using mods is incredibly simple on Source, so I wouldn't complain.

The devs should have just zipped the file with with main Strider Mountain folder included like most mods that tell you to just unzip to your source mod folder, cause if you get the name wrong it won't load. They might want to fix that and upload a new zip before they anger a bunch of noobs.

Enjoying it Guys,but stumbled across a problem on Map 11 there seems to be something missing the switch seen in the screenshot isnt on my map,but one thing i really liked is the cut scenes in Map 12 brilliant stuff.

Fixed it restarted the Map,my fault eh i need new specs,but i finished the Mod last night terrific stuff, i too missed one Portal download Map15 and got Gordon Imprisoned nice touch there,all the best with this

There were a few simple issues (cross hairs set at 0,etc.)nearly all of which were easily handled through the console.Again,an excellent and fresh piece of work!!

Level design was meh, the rest was good except...
WHO DECDIED TO REMOVE THE BLOODY CROSSHAIR? And without even iron-sighting to replace it. That was a stupid idea and meant I wasted most of my ammo sighting in where to shoot and then blasting it into thin air. Please!! Iron sights or a crosshair! Either will do!

It's clearly just another mistake in this supposedly 'final' release.

Got to agree about the level design, my only hope is that it gets better further in.

What was with that part with the pipes you have to jump down, and then climb the ladder to get up to the control console to let the platform across in the first level?

Why would someone construct such a thing? Health and safety would have a field day!

Level design should make sense in a real-life situation and then liberties should be taken to make it fun. If it doesn't make any sense, it feels like you're playing Mario.

I'll write up my full views when I'm through with it.

I haven't completly finished it yet, but so far I'm liking it. The level design is interesting, and the weapons look great. However, some things I don't like so far:

* The immense amount of enemies.

Theirs a crazy amount of them. It's insane. I'm all up for a little fight, but on the watermill I had to take on at least 10 or 11 guys. Even with the new rifle it took me a few tries to actually get across the water with a decent amount of health. Then, after that I get to go into room filled with 6 enemy's on 3 different levels, it was almost cruel :P

* Strider dance scenes.

The one strider scene I saw so far (Portal 1) was a little long for something so trivial. It's not a massive deal, but it was strange.

* Finally, some of the area's didn't really make sense. For example the pipe-to-ladder part mentioned above. Other puzzles didn't jump out at me right away (the part with the 4 turrets and the boxes comes to mind. I ended up piling boxes onto the gas tank and jumping over the fence :P).

Somethings I did like:

* Multi-leveled combat. There was a lot of it, and it really makes combat more interesting.

* Cut scenes are well done and mostly relevant to the situation.

So far though, excellent job!

Eh, well, tried it, can't say I liked the gameplay that much.

Frankly I had to boost the skill level myself by giving it a smod-tactical esque realism.
Though no ironsight and no leaning also shot that down rather quickly.

The weapon sounds were OFF by a mile long, and my Sniper rifle acted like a left handed crossbow (Wtf?), even after redownloading it about 5 times

Some sounds seemed weird and out of place (One door that opened made a knife cutting sound, wtf?)

and some gameplay elements are either poorly thought out or never even considered to be an annoyance, for example the turrets in some levels which prohibid you to move fast enough and die rather quickly as there's like 5 of em in a row shooting you down at once.

The assault rifle looked like a freakin mp5 with a nade launcher under it (or was that supposed to be a G1?) which shot those big blobby ricochettin power ball **** which I cant give a huge damn about, and some of the cutscenes took DAYS to finally freakin' end, like with the headcrab-hacksaw room >.>

All in all I can't say I'm pleased in the least... bout gameplay and sound design. The rest was awesome.

well, days, that's a bit over the top. the actual scene takes exact one minuut, really. but, i agree, its a bit long. should i have to make it again i probebly would have made it shorter to.
about the weapons all i can say is that we didn't make them, except the sniper rifle, that one is made by Cubedude89. we did use an excisting weapon mod, and ofcourse did we first if we could use it, instead of what some people think here. should you not like the weapons then please just take them out and play SM with the original HL2 weapons, or add any other weapon mod that you do like. you don't need to use these weapons. about the leveldesign and puzzels, personaly i am not a fan of puzzels. still, i did try to add some just to make SM hopefully a bit more interesting to a wider group of people. that some of you think that SM is to hard, and that it has to many combines attacking, or that you think that there are to many combines and to less other HL2 enemies. this all again has to do with personal taste. i made the maps how i like to play maps. personaly i like many enemies, and the combines i like best, that's why i placed them so many. believe it or not, i really haven't placed that many enemies, when i really would have done what i would have liked best i had doubled the amount. so, all in all SM really isn't that hard. its just what you prefer, its all a matter of taste. and what is liked by some is ' hated ' by others.

hopefully you do like playing SM, and if not, then that's a real shame, but it can't be helped. then we clearly have a different taste and style of gaming, and that is ok with me.

to RunningJack and others who think that there are many enemies in SM who keep spawning i really have to say that this is NOT the case !!
really, only in map 6 i made 2 spawnpoint that keep spawning combines, but, ONLY for a particular time. as soon as a trigger furtheron is triggered the spawning stops.
so, to say that this happens a lot in SM is really simply NOT true !
and there is a simple reason for it, and that is that i also don't like enemies that keep spawning and spawning. but, in map6 i thought it was nessesary to do so, on a small scale like i described.
that it looks maybe to you that this is the case can't be helped.
it is true that SM does have a lot of enemies in it, but, that's how i like to play and make maps. personaly i do like here and there places were you have to fight for your life, and have enemies come in 2 to 3 short waves. can't get enough of that actualy.
to be honest, our last HL2 sp-mod called Coastline to Atmosphere was much more hectic. i really did try to make SM less hectic, and i have deleted severel combines here and there after testing to make it more for a wider audience.

Have played until chapter 13.
It´s an excellent mod game.

- The trick with the vehicle is very creative.
- Going up in the montain with the vehicle is exciting.
- The fight in the Snow was very good. It´s a pity that were so little fight in the snow.
- The Tram car was excellent, in the same level of Valve train events.
- The Antlion Queen fight is excellent.

- The music and sounds are the best features of the game by far.
- The music was perfect in the game.

The not so good part.
The problem with this mod, and others in general, is more a fault of HL2 than the modifications themselves.
The problem is that there is no variation of enemies. It´s always to fight and kill combines.
It becames like a WWII style of game, only that, instead of Nazy Germans you have Combines.

If there was some Hunters, Houndeyes and even some Advisers to fight and see, then the lack of variation in enemies would be less apparent.
Also the lack of fighting allies, like the Vortigaunts, during the game, also diminish the appeal of it.

But it´s an excellent game, nevertheless.
Only that, without Episode Two enemies or even Half Life 1 enemies, it feels a little outdated in the Half life Series.

thanks Huey for the revieuw, and i can only agree on that it does look outdated, by now HL2 is 6 years old or so, and i too had the last year a feeling of working with outdated stuff, even when Hl2 is a great game.
that fighting the combines is getting a bit boring after time is also something i have to agree with. most maps have only combines, but this is because i don't like the other enemies that much from HL2. the headcrabs and zombies are ok, but there are allready to many mods out there that are filled with them, that's why i did use them only here and there. personaly i HATE ( H_A_T_E_!!!!!!!!!!!) playing with allies. really, i like to decide how to go forward, in which tempo, and to kill alone all the enemies.its a real shame the gaming industry seem to have choosen for this concept. most new good fpshooters are made like that, take cod4 and 5, or Call of Juarez2, specialy this last one. you have to run all the time, and when you don't but take the time to look around you hear in the distance shooting. only to see death bodies ones you get there, and your allie who is telling you to hurry up! I HATE THAT !!!!
therefore you will NEVER find large parts in my maps were you fight together with others against enemies. in SM there is only one small part were this happens, map 5 and 6. most of the times the rebels that are with you are death before you know it. to get back on the subject that many games are like this these days is, when you ask me, because mp gaming is so popular that they even try to make the sp-missions look and feel like mp missions. when i want to play mp i will do so, (but i never do so, i only play sp) so please game companies, let there be a difference between these 2 sorts of missions !!!??? there are still enough people out there that feel the same, i know this is the case, seems the game companies forget this.

You´re welcome Leon, and the compliments are well deserved.

I also forgot to mention the
- room with the machines that mount the Strider´s "Head".
This factory room is epicly well done as the
- futurist alien machines and textures used in the Combine base.

About the other enemy NPCs, in fact it would be a bit strante to have the Combine base infested with Zombies ;) (unles it was a kind of laboratory, but it is a factory instead)

I understand what you are saying, in relation to the ally´s NPCs.
It´s allways a problem having to do a good fight and having to worry to protect the lives of the allies.
But, a well done interaction with friend NPCs, in relation to the story and the happening drama, makes the story more alive and more thrilling.
And i am aware you know that better than me; and; as good as it is, this feature requires a lot of effort to create making the game still more difficult to release.

Anyways, thanks again for the efforts of your team, since we were gift with an entire Half Life game for free and that is
no small feat.
