Paradox Interactive and Paradox Development Studio today released a new developer video alongside an equally new 3D model exporter tool that will allow users to create full conversion mods for games such as upcoming grand strategy titles Stellaris and Hearts of Iron IV.

The tool, named Clausewitz Maya Exporter, makes it easier for community creators to introduce their own models and units into the latest Clausewitz engine games, with full support for upcoming titles and partial support for Europa Universalis IV and Crusader Kings II.

“Modding has always been a core part of our games. Many fans of ours became exposed to our games through mods and working with these users and creators has always been important to us” says Henrik Fåhraeus, Game Director for Stellaris. “The community has been asking for more total conversion mods and we want to make it easy as possible for our talented fans to make them”

"Full Conversion Mods Made Possible with New Modding Tool"

“Any gameplay exposed to the player in Stellaris should be moddable,” says Stellaris Game Designer, Joakim Andreasson, “So our modders can change pretty much every value, most of the game rules, and the content they see within the game”

“We’re excited to see what the community can bring to our games,” said Fåhraeus. “We’ve seen some great ideas on our forum and we’re looking forward to seeing what kind of ships, aliens and other things the community will add to the game”

The new tool, initially scheduled to release alongside Stellaris on May 9th, is made available today for modders everywhere. To download the free tool log in with your Paradox Account via this link; Accounts.paradoxplaza.com or check the "Downloads" tab on your account page.

We're having a Stellaris multiplayer event going on in the UK this week. We're doing weekly streams of Stellaris Thursdays on Twitch.

Developing a mod for Europa Universalis IV and Crusader Kings II or Wanting to showcase your modding skills for Stellaris add you mod today to start building your community.

Is there a particular mod or category of mod for Stellaris that you are most looking forward to seeing the community create?

What was your main inspiration for making Stellaris - any aspects of particular films or games that you drew from or loved playing when designing parts of Stellaris?

What are some of the favorite mods for Paradox games among the development team?

When you guys are taking a break from devs work, what is your go-to game to play in the office? Or do you prefer to do non-computer activities when you're on break?

What's your favorite feature of the new modding tools you've created for Stellaris?

What was the hardest thing you struggled with in making Stellaris? How did you solve it?

Of games that have come out recently (or are soon to be released), which ones are you looking forward to most?

What is your spirit animal and why?

During QA/Just noodling around during production, what's been the craziest thing to happen during a game?

How close do you think we as a species are to really reaching out and taking our first big steps in the universe?

Beyond the three basic weapon types will there be any additional types added in through DLC?

How many different empires can exist in a map at once?

Would you rather live a 'Star Trek' future, or a 'Firefly' one?

Now that release dates almost here, what was the most difficult part in all of it?

Are expansions already in planning stages?

Will Aircraft Carriers be added in at some point? I know you can change others into them..but I'm sure adding in a real template would be a welcomed change.

What was the balance decided on for Fallen empires? Was it difficult to make them too strong or too weak?

How impactful is tech from tier to tier. As in mid-game versus late game. Or early mid game versus late mid game.

One more extra. Modding seems extremely important to you guys. Why and how was that decision made? It does buy you a ton of positive PR.Community loves you!

How moddable will the game be?

What kind of expansions can we expect to see?

What / Kind of research can we expect to see?

How much research will there be?

How will ground combat be like - will we see an EU IV type of ground combat, or just a screen showing how the battle on the planet is going?

Will there be official modding tools?

The games official site says it has mac support, will the game have mac support on launch or will this be added at a later date?

Will multiplayer be cross platform?

Will the Creatures of the Void pre-order DLC be made available to people who did not pre order the game at some point?

What inspired the ship and creature design?

Will we be seeing physical or digital content (Concept art, physical 3d Models, Game soundtrack, and more)*** Seperately for sale, much like the "Pre order packs"?

How friendly are updates going to be with saved games and mods from previous builds and iterations of the game.

Here's a good one, Will the prizes that are being offered for questions contain the preorder bonuses?

Will the blorg stream, or some other stellaris oriented content continue after release?

Last one is just out of curiosity and to get a scope of it, Exactly how long has this project been ongoing and how many people have been directly/indirectly involved in its making?

What was the most challenging aspect of the AI was it for the team to develop?

Is the AI using an intelligent environment query system to help gauge its action with a combination of behavior trees?

With the possibilities of so many factions in one large galaxy, what was the trick in managing so many AI's having to interact with so many others at a given time?

What was the most surprising development that the AI ever had? To give an example, the Ghandi of World Destruction in Civilization.

In regards to the art, what technologies did you leverage to obtain such a unique style, such as PBR or similar techniques?

Is there a possibility for nomadic/planetless races to be made available as DLC?

What about a playable pirate faction?

Could either of these conceivably be made as mods instead? Is the modding framework up to it?

Will there be a mercenary Mechanic to the game?

Thank you for reading i would like the game for the fact that professors at my college are looking for up to 32 people on campus to play a 32 man match on campus of this game

Hello Stellaris developers,

I just have a simple question: Will the publisher **** over the customer with D.R.M. as is so often the case today, or will they actually let us offline users play the game we pay for? This looks like the kind of game i'd like to buy, but i obviously won't if the publisher won't let me play it.

I see no Steam links in this article which is a good sign, however there are still other, less common, forms of authoritarian D.R.M. which can ruin any game.

Thank you for your time, i really appreciate the work you guys put into your games even if the publishers don't. :)

I wish you the best for your new game.

Hello Alerio,

Thank you for the suggestion, it would indeed be a good idea to check out the past releases by Paradox. I must confess i know next to nothing about Paradox (or most modern game developers/publishers, for that matter), so i will have to do some research into their history.

Take care, CoHtaku.

My question is a bit more complex, but perhaps you might consider it. Many societies have collapsed not due to external invasion or internal political uprisings, but through the inability to evolve in an economic sense. Expenditures for individuals and organizations in the long run evolve into purchases of fewer necessities and more luxuries, where the need to placate the lower classes causes the increased production and dissemination of luxuries at the expense of continuing development of necessities. Eventually the society stagnates and fragments. Does Stellaris in some way represent this as a possible future for a race, or perhaps could the developers consider including it in some future expansion?

Hello developers,

As a beginning game developer, I'm interested in knowing the workflow by which your studio creates each game. What amount of planning, scripting, and testing goes into each finished product?

Secondly, how does your studio get the idea to create the games? What is one tip for developers about how to come up with an idea for a game?

I cant wait for Stellaris to come out!

Hey Devs, really looking forward to the release and I am seriously loving all the footage available already! From what little I've heard of it, Stellaris sounds like an interesting game. Mind you, I haven't been paying -that- much attention, between Star Ruler 2 and Star Trek Online taking up my time and not expecting to buy anything new, so...

That being said, when I looked at the original trailer back when the game was announced, it sounded like this was going to be 'Star Ruler 2, but with a much bigger budget'. How far am I off target here? xD

Hi Dev team,

- Where will Stellaris mods be available from for download/storage/hosting etc?

- Is there a race trait for colonizing or occupying gas giant planets or is it even possible for that matter in Stellaris?(excluding mods)

- In single player will factions be allowed? (teaming up with one or multiple AI races)

- What are the recommended system requirements for Stellaris with mods?

- While Stellaris was in development, what aspect of the game posed the most difficult to achieve and why?

Thank you :)

2. Will there be a race that has a special lifestyle and can't colonize planets, but can build orbital space stations?

3. What kind of troops will there be in the game?

4. What do you think is the best feature of the game?

5. Finally and most importantly. Can you blow up planets?

2. You say, that modding is an important part of the game. So, what kind of mods will you expect and what mods would you like to see?

3. If you could go anywhere in the known universe (to explore or sightseeing or something...), where would you decide to go and why?

Hello there workers, developers, coders, et.c at Paradox Interactive. I'm a really big fan of HoI III and can't wait for HoI IV to be released and I love all your other games. But without further to do, let me ask you 5 questions.

1. What prompted you to develop a game like this?

2. Were you able to use your past experiences on other games to create this one? And if you were able to, what games?

3. Will there be free DLC like there is in HoI IV?

4. Will modding be like it is in HoI IV and if not, what's different?

5. How long did it take you to create this game? And was it longer than HoI IV?

Thank you for taking your time to read these questions.

"For religious society, will it be possible to launch Holy-Crusades against others xenos form ?"

"Speaking of which can I be able to form my own Imperium of Man, either in vanilla or modded game ?"

"Can species blend together by force once one is defeated or can it be done via pure diplomacy, I am thinking about forming a Covenant just like in Halo or simply slaughter them for you own species benefit (no flame intended here) ?"

Do you plan on adding a ground warfare similar to that of Planetary Annihilation, wherein one has to their forces in a strategic manner to achieve victory over an enemy force?

Is there a possibility of end-game technologies unlocking access to other galaxies, which also have their own civilizations competing for domination of their respect galaxies?

Will there be an option to import player made races into the game, without modding or having to go through game files?

Would the rotation of a galaxy be factored into the location of star systems, and due to some variables like distance from the galactic core, have the locations of the star systems change, adding new or previously unavailable routes or strategic options?

Is there possibility of due to some events your planet type will change. I mean, if there will be some temperature changes on nearby star , what will lead to all planets around star to switch their type, for example, from Continental to Tropical? Random terraform possibility.

Can you during a war in late game turn enemy planets to tomb worlds? Literally.

Do you plan to add more espionage actions? For example, like you can do with less advanced species, send your spy infiltrate other empire's administration so one day they will find out that their governor was actually some other empire spy.

There are some gen changes you can make. But can you actually do some extreme gen modification - change pops from other species to your own? Turn spacecat into blorg?

Is there tech allowing you to add more blocks for pops to live on planets surface? New blocks, not blocks that being blocked.

Do you plan a dlc or a way to mod in a starship class that can hold a number of population units ? Something huge that can have tiles and be upgradeable just like a planet. Something along the "star nomads" line of thought....

Could you mod in a way to create deep space starbases / shipyards ? Something not bound to the gravity well of a system. It could be usefull in building a listening post or forward base.
