Hi all,

today all Stargate fans including us have been suprised with the announcement of Stargate:Origins!
Here is what we know so far:

  • Stargate Origins will be a prequel to Stargate SG-1 and, possibly, the Stargate film.

  • It will focus on the story of Catherine Langford.

  • Other possible origin stories have also been hinted at.

  • Stargate Origins will be affected by the viewers through a new portal called Stargate Command. Stargate Command can be found here, where you will be able to view and comment on the episodes.

  • The success or failure of SGO will fall on the fans; watching, sharing and telling others about it.

  • Episodes will be about ten minutes long. There will be ten episodes.

  • It will be available to international viewers.

  • Stargate Command will have both free elements and paid content for subscribers.

  • Shooting is to begin this August.

  • First episode is scheduled to be released in Fall of 2017.

  • It will be produced by MGM’s Digital Group and entertainment studio New Form.

  • It will be directed by Mercedes Bryce Morgan.

  • It will be written by Mark Ilvedson and Justin Michael Terry.

  • Stargate Origins will be live action and canon to the mythology. It doesn't reboot and set aside 17 seasons of television.

  • No network affiliation means that they can keep the show going as long as they want without having to sign contracts.

  • Future seasons of "Origins" can go anywhere, like an anthology series. Even revisit familiar faces from the other shows.

  • If SGO is even moderately successful, that means more Stargate. Down the road that would certainly mean a return to long-form.

I'm overall pretty happy that we get new Stargate content but would be interested in the points that concern you. :)

YAY!!!

It's the best thing that could happen to the Stargate franchise.

We didn't need another loose reboot in the likes of Total Recall
written by the people of the new Independence Day,
beside the fact this particular franchise has way too long a story and still open horizons to clean the slate.

We just needed a low-risk effort to revive the franchise.
The folks at MGM showed to be smart enough to make the right decision and believe in their asset the right way, the difficult one.

Now it's up to us to support them.

Personally I can't wait to watch, share, give my feedback and pay for some premium content if it is worth it!

I'm completely with you there.
This is a very good step for MGM to test the waters for a bigger return of the fanchise. Hope enough people will support it...

Would be interesting to know what this premium content might be...making ofs maybe?

Thats indeed awesome news. I'm ready to pay for some of the Premium Content in order to finally help MGM getting Stargate back on rails.

Stargate without an actual stargate... Meh.
If they activate it before the first test, it IS a reboot.

Btw what happened to actual reboot? There were news couple years ago about remaking movie (or something), whats up with that, anyone know?
