Post news Report RSS Star Trek Infinities demo announced - The Border Wars

Inbound Cardassian military signatures have been detected. Their present course and speed will put them in Federation territory near Setlik III within the hour. Intentions unknown, presumed hostile. All Federation outposts and vessels in the Cardassian border region are to go to Red Alert. All Starfleet units be advised - standard rules of engagement apply. Take defensive action only until further notice. Reinforcement task force will rendezvous ASAP at Minos Korva. Good luck.

Greetings all,

It is with no small amount of pleasure that I have been selected to make an announcement that is sure to cause quite a stir in the Stellaris community. You, our fans, have patiently waited for months, kept us motivated and spurred us on with your endless support. It seems only fitting that we offer something in return.

So, without further ado, the Star Trek Infinities development team are pleased to reveal to you:

STAR TREK INFINITIES - BORDER WARS

Legata VS Cheyenne

Two complete, fully playable factions

Coming your way is a fully playable demo for the upcoming Star Trek Infinities, customised specifically to give you an authentic feel for how the finished product will eventually play. Take command of one of two complete factions over three eras of Star Trek history and compete for dominance over the Cardassian border regions. Get a taste of the Infinities experience - explore strange new worlds, seek out new life, encounter the unknown, make scientific breakthroughs, spread your ideals and defend your people. And do it all this year!

Border Friction

Will you expand your influence or defend your people?

So what factions are involved?
Choose to play as either the idealistic United Federation of Planets, or the ruthless, expanding Cardassian Union. As always both factions will have differing strengths and weaknesses and offer a different game experience. But make no mistake - this will be no piece-meal demo. The Border Wars will offer its own complete experience representative of our vision for Infinities.

What about the other factions, like the Klingons? Or the Romulans?
Two bonus micro-factions will be available in Border Wars. These factions will be playable, but the Klingons and the Romulans won't be appearing until the full release. The two bonus factions will remain a secret, for now.

Klingon vs Cardies

Honour in life, glory in death!

How about era progression?
Both the Federation and Cardassian factions have full ship lists and will be able to progress through The Lost Era, The Next Generation and late-TNG time periods. Experience nearly a full century of Star Trek history!

What about the other eras of Star Trek history?
The three above eras will be available to all factions upon the full release of Infinities. A later release will add two further time periods - the Enterprise era, and the Axanar/Original Series era! Our plans may change and we may shoot to include all eras upon release, but this is as yet undecided. One way or the other, the entirety of Star Trek canon will be yours!

Wind of Death

From the shadows, flame. From the darkness, death

Just how close to Infinities is this going to be?
Border Wars is going to be a small but completely authentic slice of what we have envisioned for Infinities. Of course there will be changes and refinements as we continue on to the full release, but this is essentially how we want Infinities to be. This is Star Trek Infinities, just on a smaller scale.

So, when can I get my hands on it?
That's probably the best part! Before the end of this year! We can't name a precise date yet of course, but we're aiming for a Christmas holiday release. We're a festive bunch...

Hoooopefully this will be less about the Dominion War and more about being allowed to be various races.

The dominion war theme works great in STA3, but here not so much, considering we'll be playing Stellaris.

Looks like it is based more on the Cardassian War mentioned in TNG then the Dominion war.

I think we'll be able to play the roles we want. A Starfleet player should be able use diplomatic options before charging phasors. At least I hope that's the plan

how are the phaser beam effects (aliasing) weapon effects in general, shiptype limits, and galaxy creation (ie faithful to canon alpha, beta quadrants etc)

i imagine sins particle effects are damn near unbeatable

Really looking forward to this, guys! Looks like this will blow any other Stellaris mod currently released or in development away in terms of scope and quality.

Have you guys considered 'outsourcing' event creation to the community? The game is best when you've got a huge variety of events - I imagine there'd be plenty of people willing to contribute authentic Trek event text to the game so that you guys can spend time polishing submissions rather than writing it all from scratch.

2 secret factions ? Well, One must be the Borg Collective

And anyway, how you managed to adjust ST ships according ship builder in Stellaris ? All the ships in ST have integrated weapons and other systems. None of them can be exchanged. For example, I have never seen an Enterprise with phasers attached only, or only torpedoes... if you got my point

Yes, weve come up with a system to prevent that! well probably show that in public soon! because indeed it would be silly to see torpedos fire from phaser strips!

PS: if youve got modding experience were still looking for team members!

You guys certainly have talent for this stuff. Hopefully someday we'll see a "Call to Arms"ish type expansion that throws in the Dominion and Borg.

Someone needs to mark down every time someone says "The hype is real" in whatever words. Then, for each time we add a redshirt to the pile.
