Post news Report RSS Star Trek Armada II: Fleet Operations - Name a few

Fleet Operations tries to keep close to the Star Trek shows, especially for graphics and visual effects. Yet, we always had a slight but important issue: a starship's name and registry. Both are very prominent markings on a ship and were seen in many show and movie flybys. What would the Enterprise have been without the famous "1701"? Yet, we had to skip the nameplates entirely. And that just changed! For the first time in Fleet Operations - and Armada.

And that just changed! For the first time in Fleet Operations - and Armada - your vessel's name and registry will appear right on the hull to give a personal feeling of your fleet. Your battle-tested veterans and attack squadrons will no longer be just one of those countless clones - they are now individual ships! I will keep this post short and jump directly to some screenshots.

We even went so far as to add the very small hull markings on the nacelles or the main bodies of starships, as you can see on the warpdrive in the Excelsior shot above. While they are not easily readable in game, they still add that final bit of "Trek spirit" to the Fleet Operations models. As only the Federation is seen to mark their ships, we only included this new feature for them, yet. But we could think of other factions, like the Klingons, to include a similar visual extension in the future.

This is great!

Now can you please ditch the standard Star Fleet Spacecraft Design Regulations and design something that is more practical? Example:

Actual Armor in addition to shields, switching from Phazers to more reliable and in some cases more powerful weapons, like Projectile Weapons, Lasers, Anti-Fighter Missiles, Active Defence Systems, etc.

And maybe make some of the ships carry fighters.

It's a mod... about Star Trek... which ditched all of that as a part of progress beyond 21st century on-the-drawing-boards-at-DARPA-this-minute tech...

Phasers are phased energy beams, more energy than lasers...

The weakest torps in Trek use antimatter warheads which are kilo-for-kilo much more destructive than a chemical missle...

Navigational sheilding on Trek ships negate the usefulness of any projectile weapon short of a Halo-style MAC cannon as space debris tend to have more kinetic energy in it than your average bullet...

And as for active defence systems, energy sheilds are pretty active when activated ;)

But honestly mate, are you deliberately being obtuse? I'm just curious...

A small detail, but it really does add to the "Trek" feel. Great work!

Just downloaded it today after seeing this post. I just recently reinstalled my old Armada II and was surprised of how different I had the graphics in mind. Really awesome work, guys! UI and ingame visuals are great!
