Here it is the eagerly awaited September Update from the Duke Nukem Forever Restoration Team!

The team here at the Restoration Project has been working hard to lead us through another productive month! We had a stellar August update so we hope that the things we bring you this month are just as exciting!

Chapter 1 Updates

Still trying to prepare for our first slice, a lot of our level design department has been hard at work trying to clean up the first chapter. Things like the interview with Jay have been completed and implemented giving the game a much more polished feel. If that’s not your style, then a new vent system has been built into the Studio as well so you can get right to the action.

Dark Hotel is one of the first levels to get some music made for the project! Below is a link to the track and some of the others from the artist J3ster aka Phexlone23!

Buffet has gotten some love too with all new combat sections implemented into the map and more decorations littered about.

Sometimes we need something a little different to work on too. So some of the team has been working on fleshing out some of the later on levels; Below are some completely new areas added to Stratosfear along with a trailer for Power Struggle!

Subtitles Update

Accessibility has been something we want to make sure we reach one of our Programmers has been hard at work trying to get this integrated and working smoothly and we can proudly say you can expect conversational subtitles.

SpeechCoordinator System Update

One of the huge updates to come down this month is the new expansion of the SpeechCoordinator system. Now NPCs have better idle speech to make the enemies feel more lively. Snatched now make moaning zombie noises, EDF have more idle chatter, Pig Cops snort and squeal. This helps make major strides in making the enemies feel more alive and combat more interesting.

Chapter boss battles are somewhat of a staple to Duke Nukem, DNF will be no exception. Viscerax is the right hand of Proton working as the general to his military. A survivor of the last alien invasion, Viscerax is driven by his hatred and spite for Duke. He will bring with him a familiar enemy along with him with a few new tricks.

Alternative Slice

Lastly this month we wanted to give you a little alternative to last month's teaser. Using another part of Lee Jackson’s original E3 track, this shows off a little more of the hard work our team has been up to!


Thank You Again to Lee Jackson! Whose E3 trailer music segments we used in this trailer! These tracks were concepts by Mr. Jackson, originally meant for Duke Nukem Forever's E3 2001 trailer, before David Arkenstone was brought on to do the music for said trailer.

Ha! I did not know. I was under the impression from what I have seen of the leaked build material that possessed EDF soldiers would have been the main enemies of DNF2001.

Looking fantastic as always, though with the updates about music I hope you all remember it's important to give sections time to breathe as well with no music in them. This always struck me as more of an atmospheric title than you'd think so definitely make sure you let the atmosphere speak for itself in certain places (like the beginning where you walk across the rooftops seeing the Vegas city while it's raining).
